Who is in production?

Are you in production? About to go into production?

Wanna bitch about it? I for one want to hear from directors at those head-bashing moments...

With so many tourists, just think of all those freshman who are going to benefit from our personal agon-I mean experience.

Who knows? Maybe you'll find some sympathy and compassion...

So tell us ( or me) about your fabulous new festival winning whateva. And how "easy it is" to get it made.

Still in pre production, but still have headaches. Does that count?
I'm even keeping a journal as major event unfold. I really should include something about the callback I got from Victorinox, the Swiss Army Knife people :)

Well the production is finished, but I really banged my head on
the wall when one of my major locations was demolished a
couple of weeks before I showed up to shoot there.... Nothing
was left except some grass inbetween the stones. Sigh. Quite
nice when you get there with your crew and equipment to start
shooting!

Keith, you've got me curious...I wanna hear the Victorinox story. And Rob, I have this knack for hauling friends off to restaurants that we discover have either gone out of business or burned down. Glad it's never happened with a shoot! You sure rose to the challenge, though...your episode turned out great.

I have a "work" shoot in production now...pretty dry stuff, so nothing to mention. And I've got three personal projects in preproduction...all delayed for one reason or another. Just this evening I met with the actress that I've chosen for one project and she agreed to do it...so I guess that qualifies as "in production"...or does it?

My biggest obstacle has been with language and cultural differences. But that looks like it might change soon. An actor friend here is going to introduce me to a girl who's completely bilingual and who has lived in the U.S. for several years PLUS she has experience working with indie film crews. If that works out, things will start falling into place pretty quickly.

How about you, Kat? How's your production coming along?

John- It's a funny story, I think...
I am making a parody of bad slasher/horror movies. My inept stalker/would be killer, orders his disguises and things through ebay, and keeps getting the wrong stuff. He has ordered a black robe and hunting knife, and ends up getting a swiss army knife. But this knife will intimidate more than a bunny or a mail clerk. It has a spork, a corkscrew, and a huge, saw back hunting blade.

Since Victorinox doesn't make anything remotely similar, I was having the knife made for me. Just to play it safe, I sent several emails and phone calls to Victorinox to get the license to use their logo on the prop.

I finally got the right person, because the next morning I got a phone call. The woman was in charge of marketing, and said they read my email, and were "disturbed" at the idea. They absolutely refused to allow me to use their name, logo, or anything similar to it. "Would I please send them something in writing to prove I wouldn't use it? " I said no.

"How can we be sure you didn't use it?" I told her to buy the DVD next summer if she needed proof.

That'd be great, Rob. Sooomeday...you never know.

Keith...that's pretty funny. That's one DVD you can chalk up as already bought. So, you're not going to go the "Nictorivox" route, eh?

Nope, too close for comfort... Of course, I might just call it a French Army Knife...

Of course, this does give me an idea... Contact every big name I can think of, and ask for permission to use their product. Of course, they'll say no. By the time the DVD comes out, I'll have a fortune in sale from people looking for infringement suits!

Can I copyright the phrase "Product Removal"?

Keith, you have won my "Hero of the Day" award for today.
That's an awsome story!

We are in preproduction for a shoot here in Houston. First auditions will be tuesday. Already have the location. Bought the filmstock, so it's in the fridge. We are shooting in Black and White, 35mm. It will have a "Noir" look. Phase one is to shoot the first "act" of the short. About eight pages of a 24 page script.

Tentative shooting schedule calls for the first weekend in December. So far, all looks good, but I am keeping the Advil handy...
