Number 8 Wire - Help make a film with a click

I know a lot of people on this board are into low budget film making and resourcefulness. I and my creative partner Rajneel Singh have an entry in a competition called makemymovie.co.nz that is all about exactly that. The competition is kind of a throw back to Roger Corman style of film making (get a good title, make a poster, set the budget low and see if the idea will float.) for New Zealanders. It also stems from the organizer of one of the world's largest and most well run limited time film making competitions, the V48HOURS Short Film Competition.

Basically, entrants submit ideas in the form of a title, a movie poster, and a synopsis, as well a bit about their film making past that gets seen by the judges. We are then asked to drum up support for the idea on Facebook, Twitter etc and try and connect with our audience online ahead of time. This is an increasingly common approach, not matter how you plan on funding your film - except in this case it actually has an impact on whether we get $100K to make our movie.

So please check out our entry Number 8 Wire and like it, tweet about it or +1 it if the idea grabs you. The super short pitch would be this: What if MacGyver turned serial killer? The name itself reference's the New Zealand concept of Number 8 Wire - a bit like duct tape to MacGyver, or gaffer tape to all of us film makers. Its a product and mentality that us Kiwis have used to make do and jury rig solutions to problems we didn't otherwise have the tools or equipment to fix, so instead went with ingenuity and what we had at hand - usually Number 8 Wire.

So our film throws a dark twist on that concept, not only using it to make a thrilling and surprising horror but also it doubles for the idea of testing our own personal ingenuity in doing it all in a tight time frame (the selected winner will need to complete their film by April next year) and for the tight but workable budget of $100,000 NZ dollars.

So please check out our idea and if you think it's a good one simply share it around and you'll be helping the chances of us getting the film made. Thanks a lot.
