Nice images in there. I agree about the music - not sure what's wrong with it but it doesn't seem to be 'serious' enough.
If you're looking to trim it a little, I would be inclined to lose the scenes going under the garage door (not that exciting); hate to say it but the impact of the missile/comet on the building isn't totally convincing - the incoming portion is fine, so I'd think about cutting right at the point of impact (maybe adds a little tension, not actually seeing the explosion?); other than that I thought all the clips were interesting and kept my attention. Also agree with Daniel about the ending. If it was my reel I would use the 'No More Free Shows' clip at the end - kinda fits in with what you're trying to do as well (assuming you're looking for work). Nice reel. What did you use in making it? |

Trash The Dress from Bobruisk
Trash The Dress from Bobruisk on Vimeo
This is our first collaborative project. It was the first time when we were working with 2 cameras sony 2100 as well as with glidecam 2000. Please, don’t try to find in our video some deep, or I would even say any kind of sense, we didn’t have any intentions to develop a story here. Try to approach our video as an experimental project which was done by two guys from Bobruisk (Belarus). Simply after wedding we have offered to our newlyweds to try to do something unusual, they welcomed our idea and as a result we came up with our own version of Trash the Dress. Sasha Terentyev and Alexey Logajsky from Bobruisk (Belarus) |
That was pretty cool. Nice consistent color palette. I'd like to have seen more shots linger on their faces (particularily hers, there were more of him, but only 2 brief ones of her face).

What Lori said, but it's fairly obvious you can produce great visuals from the reel - well done!

Always difficult to know how to pitch a doc - this is a second version, still needs color grading and much more work... Return to Lake Havasu: the story of "Day of the Wolves"

GRCC Book Prank
Hey everybody!
Here's a short video that I put together. We filmed it while we were waiting for classes to start that morning. Nothing in this video is staged, I just followed my friends around with the camera. Enjoy! GRCC Book Prank on Vimeo SB |

"Clean Up" - our YouTube Project: Direct entry
Greetings people! "Clean Up" is our entry for the "YouTube Project: Direct" challenge. We basically rushed last minute to make the deadline. Written, shot, edited over 3 days (around 16 hours total). Check it out and let us know what you think. The story's not that original, for that I apologize. But hopefully you dig the visuals/editing.

Post production as I go...
I've been trying to finish this project for about a year. I shot it for a competition (shot 2 other pieces along with it) and failed to complete it in time. The script is a bit convoluted and caused me mental anguish trying to wrap my head around the flow for the edit. Started over a few times, tried different approaches, all failed. I finally figured out a way to get through it and pulled together the pieces from the various fora I'm on and have been sharing my progress with.
I'm hoping that this page illustrates not only the post production workflow I use, but the various ways in which you can change your approach to circumvent problems. I'm currently editing all of the parts form each location separately, even though they are intercut in the script and will be in the final edit. This finally got me through the rut and I'm happy with my progress this time around. Feel free to watch, laugh, join in the fun, rip it apart (no where near done at this point, but still fun). Keep in mind, I haven't touched the audio or color yet, just assembly editing at this point... we also shot it in a day and a half, so I'm pretty happy with the results... we then went on to shoot another (won its category) short the second day and the third the weekend after (outdoors in 20F weather :) ). I'm actually very excited to share this with you all as I think it's good to illustrate the post side - not just tips and tricks but how to wrap your head around footage that confounds you and how to approach an angry edit that is snarling at you (carry pork chops in your pockets, they can be mean and bitey). I've even gone so far as to post the full recordings as they appear on tape in lower resolutions for folks who want to dig into those and edit them as well without having to shoot anything. The sound was shot with an ATR-55 shotgun around fluorescents and resulted in a very buzzy recording which we couldn't do anything about at the time (it prompted us to buy an MA-100 to move to a balanced XLR audio system). Australia - North south wales
Hi,
I finally finished the first of 5 videos covering our round trip through Australia. This part shows Sydney, the Blue Mountains and the Ku-ring-gai-Chase national park. In the German comment at the beginning I explain that we have just arrived in time for the 75th anniversary Harbour Bridge festival and that the trip will take as from New South Wales to Queensland, the Northern Territories, Western Australia and on the way back home to Dubai. Australien Teil 1/5 - New South Wales on Vimeo Cheers, Oliver |
This is double dipping, but what the heck-
I put my film up in it's entirety: Charlie's Game - OurFilmSpace.com |
Finally got off my butt and re-edited this..
Prick is a short film about relationships, specifically the difference between what we think & say.
I still think it needs tightening up but I'd really appreciate any comments and critique 3rd edit of Prick on Vimeo I know, I know - who in their right mind posts on Christmas day? This film would never have been made if this forum wasn't around, the advice and information I've gained here has been huge. Per Johan from UWOL even helped out with footage so it's really a DVInfo community effort in a way. |
Candidly, I thought it was "perfect". I liked it very much. The mix levels were good and overall I think it was an excellent production. For me a primer in VO levels and use.
Thanks for sharing... even on Christmas. A nice present. Chris |
Just wonderful. An unfortunately familiar......

Movie Marketing Web Site
This is my favorite recent project - "coming soon" page for a web marketing group:
Cool Hand Media :: Communicate Without Failure It struck me that it has that "intense movie" web site look, similar to sites like the "Zodiac" and "Quarantine" site. Any of you indie guys need something along these lines? Might be fun to get in my portfolio (yes, I know you don't have any budget, but if someone has an actual product together, I'd look into doing some design/flash for ya - and I'm good at integrating the trailer video into the site design, or even merging video into the flash backgrounds, etc). I'd post this in "Helping Hands" but my guess is this would be more for fun/portfolio than making any cash! Best wishes for nice footage in 09 - MC |
Paul,
Quite an improvement over what I remember the first version was like. VO (expressed thoughts) were much easier to hear and background audio much better managed. Hope you had a Merry Christmas and I wish you the best of luck in the coming New Year. |
Thanks guys,
I didn't think it was that good.. I remembered your comments on audio Bruce and it certainly improves things. Don, yea.. I got one comment from a mate here who said "is this a short film or just an average night at your place?" any other comments, critique? - I think there are some dead spots that could be cut to tighten the whole thing up, although I like the slow pace at the start. |
Somnium Sator
I did not want to jinx myself but now it's ok since I only got considered for the top ten.
Somnium Sator is a Project Direct Video Entry that was a "Potential Finalist". That counts for something in my book and I'm going to try and toss this around a few festivals. I think it has the potential. Maybe I'll get some work out of it! YouTube - Somnium Sator - Project Direct 2009 |
okay guys.. 150 odd views and 39 have watched the footage on Vimeo ... and 3 comments?
so maybe everyone agrees with what's been said and there's nothing more to add - very doubtful or.. maybe people think it's pretty average and don't want to comment - more likely. I want to get on and tweak the bits I think need improving so I need some critique :- is the point of the film clear? is it humorous? are there technical errors I can improve on or eliminate? |
Hi,
it's great, I like it. Few notices : - you keyed the red dress, but on some shot you also keyed the red lipstic. This is not consistant along the movie (but it is not a problem to me) - Youtube video is a crap. Please, post it in better resolution on Vimeo or other real HD repository. - could you explain (I always like to know) how it was filmed, which camera, which settings, how much light and so on. You did a great job. Thanks. |
Sebastien,
Thank you for the view and feedback! Equipment: Sony HVR-Z1, one Lowel light, Target. We bought the furniture, except for the chairs, from Target. I filmed this deliberately the way you find it out to be. Everything that "appears" in the film is supposed to be there. The red was not really a problem but her lipstick was not reapplied to keep it bright and it fades a bit. It really didn't bother me after in post so I don't really count it as a problem. Have you tried the HD button for youtube? It's a very large improvement! |
Hello Michael,
I liked the site (you're right, it does have a nice intense movie feel). I'd like to speak with you about working on my site for my feature film 'Drawing With Chalk' (you can check out our current website and trailer at Welcome to Drawing Chalk Pictures We are looking for a more professional and polished flash integrated site and would be curious as to your thoughts. Of course we do not have a lot of money but we would pay you. Have a fantastic new year and looking forward to hearing from you. Todd |
Shawn,
One of the best of this type I have seen. The voice over was perfect, the lighting set the mood and the camera work and editing all came together. Extremely well done in my opinion. Good luck with it. |
Mystery Mardi Gras Shipwreck
A mysterious sinking, a group of dedicated scientists and technicians and a 200 year old shipwreck have all collided in the Gulf of Mexico. Four thousand feet below the choppy seas the remains of a 19th century shipwreck lie in wait and a month long expedition has been mounted to uncover her secrets. This is the deepest underwater archaeological project ever attempted in the Gulf of Mexico. And it\'s a race against time to uncover the Mardi Gras shipwreck and solve the mystery.
