Evil In Men

Hi!

I just opened a website for our newest project, a short film called Evil In Men. There's pretty much nothing on the site right now :) but updates will follow.
The movie will probably be finished in December 2007. First teaser will be out on 1 of June.

Here is Sand Castle Event that I taped.
 

Here is a video of a Sand Castle Event that I shot 2 years ago at the Revere Beach in Massachusetts. I could have shot this year’s event but I didn’t have a professional camcorder available.

I originally planed to tape the event just so that I can get some beach footage to add to my demo wheel so all together I had around 38 minutes worth of footage of that event and the camera that I used was the Panasonic 100a.

A few days ago I decided to experiment using Nero so I edited the footage to around 24 minutes but I still left some over exposed shots on purpose. If I had shot at least 3 hours worth of footage and included interviews, I could have easily made a good 1 hour documentary on the event.

As is, I’m going to show it here for free and yes I’ve already shown the dance scenes in other forums but this version has stuff I’ve never showed online yet.



The video is 356MB and the bit rare is around 2Mbps using H.264 as the codec.

Somehow the playback is only working properly using Windows Media, Nero and VLC player. For Divx and a few others, the playback is very slow.

Rally Websiode Intro/Teaser
 

Hello, I'm a rally driver, and I have started a little side project for the 2008 season of producing recap/videoblog webisode type production for my team.

Below is an intro piece I have worked on for the first VLOG that will be released once I have some good footage from the first rally with our new rally car (In Apri I believe). It introduces the characters, and the team, and really was a practice for me in editing/shooting. I drive rally cars, not usually film them, but I am trying to do both, and learn about quality production.

It was filmed with an Xacti HD1a (except the older rally footage, that's a mishmash of web vids from 2005). I am trying to produce something that has a little more "production value" than your standard VLOG.

Please let me know what you think. I am more interested in hearing any critiques you may have on the editing/animation/coloring. IE The technical aspect, as I realize there is not an abundance of footage yet.

Uhm.....what happened to the camera in the engine compartment that got spanked when the goudster kicked out the windshield ? ouch.

It was a Mamiya 645 film camera, Joe picked it up, re-attached the back, and no problems!

New Student Film
 

Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum, but I've been reading your threads for a while and decided to join this great filmmaker community. I'm a student film maker currently going to a community college. I'm currently 19 and haven't done a video since high school. I finally took a film course and worked on my first two projects while I was in college. Anyways, I shot this project with my friends and it was very time consuming. I was taking 20 units and had college applications, but I put this video first. Please check it out and some critique would be cool. Don't be too harsh we have a lot to learn still =D. We used a CB105 shoulder mount for stabilization and used some $20 home depot lights for some lighting. The budget was really low, we used whatever we had access too.

This is basically a music video with a full storyline and no lip syncing.

Ok, I'll be the first to bite...

You had some great shots in there, comparable to some of the best around, but I completely didn't get the edit.

You went from this effect ladened 3D flying camera picture in picture thing at the beginning then suddenly faded down the song at a place that wasn't a natural break and went into another song and a completely different style of edit. This completely threw me. You abruptly changed a few more times in the thing too. Maybe somehow soften these out by finding a natural transition in the songs?

I do like parts of the edit. I thought you did the whole fun/party/dancing thing well, but again it just didn't go with the pieces around it. I guess if you can take one thing away from this, it's that you might want to work on your flow a bit. Even things out.

It looks as if you're in the right kind of market to make lots of money. Ultimately if they like your work and are willing to pay big bucks for it, my opinion doesn't matter, but I just wanted more out of it cause the shooting was so strong.

Hey Ethan, thanks for the comments, I see what you're saying.

I guess I should explain that the entire wedding video was 48 minutes and I took out my favorite pieces (one from the beginning, two from the middle, and the final song) and pieced them together for the online highlights.

But you're right, there are some pretty abrupt transitions between the sections. Maybe if I use some video with natural sound to bridge the gaps between the sections?

What you have there looked great to me. But like you, I'm a driver not a video specialist. Funny that I have the same Idea as you, to produce a vidcast for my 360 sprint car team.

I’m leaving to Sao Miguel, Azores today and 2 days ago I’ve decided that I should put together some of the clips that I shot in August 2005 the last time I was their. My trip will be around 3 weeks so I may or may not get a change to go online during that time.

I don’t have time to put together all them so I’ll put the rest online when I return. Keep in mind that the originals look much, much better because the resolution in this clip is 1280x720 and the bit rate is only around 3.2Mbps using Nero Digital (h.264). I’m planning on uploading to DivX Stage6 with a bit rate at least twice that.

Anyway, the last time I put together a file online, the resolution was higher and the bit rate was much higher but each clip was an annoying 1 second each.

Local (Houston) Film Festival/Showcase with some of my shorts
 

I hope you'll allow me to post this here.

Several of my friends are putting on a showcase of their films (they're calling a "festival", but it really isn't), and I've been allowed to come along for the ride. As such, they will be screening two of my shorts along with their short and feature length films on Jan 12 of this year. My films are "Joey and Jerome's Artistic Meaningful Independent Film", and "Every Seven Minutes."

I've never attempted SMA, but its something I think I'll get into. Camera work, and filters were great. Well thought out and executed.

Yeah, that answers the question. I was pretty much just curious as to how you handled permission. Is the rest of the movie as good as the trailer? You just might have a purchase over here.

You'll want Blizzard's permission as well to use the name "World of Warcraft" and any screen capture. Especially if you're going to try to sell your product. You can certainly try to go without, but doing so could cost you the rights to the project and all your hard work...not to mention real live money in IP compensation.

Nice Video. I like the slomo which fits to the music.
I'm not sure if you had a polarizer on the Zermat footage or you have worked the video in the post but the sky looks also nice, from nearly white at the mountain boarder to deeper blue the higher it gets. Let me know.

actually, there were no filters and no color correction. working with the photos in final cut was too annoying so i didnt have the patience to touch up anything. .. thats why you'll notice that sometimes there's shadows that flicker in the background, or reflections that change from frame to frame. i could have fixed them in photoshop first but i was just lazy, haha.

btw, if any you of guys really enjoy the film i'd appreciate if you could rate it.

and if anyone knows of another program that i should look into for assembling images in a sequence like that, i'd appreciate the heads up. i looked on google but didnt really find anything that appealing.

Thanks for your comment.

No colour correction and no polarizer its just the camera. I was amazed as well since the HD camera only costs £150 ($300). no fancy bells or whistles.

That was absolutely beautiful. Also, nice compression and editing. Your wildlife shots were amazing. Heck, all of it was amazing. How difficult was it to keep focus on the wind/kite surfers?

Thanks guys. Next time I'm going for a project with an actual plan instead of just setting random clips to music.

Panning along with the kiteboarders was a little difficult with the tripod that I have and that crazy zoom. Most of those guys were very far away. But focusing wasn't as hard as I expected it to be - until of course I got cocky and set the iris to 2.8. Then it got a little tricky. I turned the peaking way up and did not use focus assist. Can never tell exposure right when focus assist is on.

VERY nice. The beginning did not initially hook me, but the different "views" of his life were so well done & captivating. Nice syncronization, good activity shots of the band. Personaly I would have liked just a bit more light on face in subsequent hallway shots after the initial run, but I realize that might conflict with the look you were going for. Thnaks for sharing!

Impressive! Interesting watching which shots cutaway quickly, & which linger - how did you choose? The night shot against the water was tremendous, great colors. By the way, the "Made in Oregon" sign in the background was super.

I loved it. The concept, the tempo of the editing, the colour, it just all worked so well. Im used to seeing video that could easily fit on television but as a whole package this not only fits on television it far surpasses many music videos i am use to seeing on a daily basis. So fill us in then, what did you shoot it on, edit etc

Looked really good. Maybe a bit more race footage, an onboard clip coming around a corner. What is your onboard set up?
