The interface to the removable cartridge frame system has been changed from USB to SATA. On the frame is a Silicon Image (not to be confused with Silicon Imaging) RAID controller which has 2 SATA ports which connect to the removable cartridge.

If there is only a single drive (SSD or HDD) the controller will simply write the data to that one drive. IF there are 2 drives, a dip switch on the cartridge determines if the drives should be written to in RAID-0 or RAID-1.

Hope you guys don’t mind blown highlights, I shot this on the fly with available light. We still have parts on order (the used S16 glass is being serviced, redrock mattebox, lcd hood ect). The current configuration will be used this week on a shoot for the American Heart Association (Got Milk?). The production team has been extremely happy with the SI-2K turnaround times (files drop right in the NLE and edit/preview like mini dv). Time=Money :-).

I wouldn’t put it up against an Arri in terms of build quality but it’s hard to complain when you consider the price. It would be nice if they made a stronger built version in the $1500-$2500 range.

Two galleries with SI2K photos

Hi guys, just wanted to invite you to our site.
We have some nice photos on the Gallery section.
It is in spanish for now. Will be bilingual (Eng) soon.
But the pics speak for themselves.

Some configs with SI2K and Mini.
I have borrowed some pics from other places in the web to show the versatility of the Mini:
