I think it is wrong to damn the whole product line just because you're having some troubles. If anything, the 1/2" XDCAM HD cameras are easier to focus than an equivalent 2/3" HD camera.
Do you have a good HD lens or are you trying to skimp with an SD lens? No offense, but I've seen people do that and then blame the camera.

You don't say if your previous 2/3" cameras were HD or SD. The F355 takes more skill and attention than a D600.

If you're sure it's not operator error, get your camera or lens checked because the F3XX series is a solid product line.
ok, try this

sit 3 people next to each other on a bench

move camera far enough away so that 3 people upper bodies fill the screen in full tele

set 0db gain and lower light level so lens if fully open

now pull focus on the person in the middle

in my case, the 2 people on the outside are soft, slightly out of focus

I can pull the same shot with my DSR-570 2/3 inch SD camera, and 3 people are sharp

Thanks for the lens info,
I feel that the lens your are using is far superior than the Fujinon I currently have on. I'm using a S20x6.4BERM-38 which is a SD piece of glass from recollection. I shoot both SD & HD with this setup and i goes ok. I have looked into the lens your using and I would love to try one out but the price is almost as much as the camera.

Cheers
