I was unable to upgrade the Fresh, from 1.05 to 1.060. I get error message "Unrecognized device" waiting to hear back from Sony, about this.

Camera off to Sony, NJ... for repair.. First camera I have ever owned that had a software prolbem, other than my car, that needed a new computer...

Software... UGH!

That's unusual indeed. But when I had a fried resistor in the shutter circuit last year, they were very good at getting the camera turned around ASAP. I trust you'll have the same treatment.
