HVR MRC1 - clip numbering

I've been using the MRC1 with my Canon XH A1 for a couple of weeks, and have one complaint about it so far. When I delete the clips from a full card, the clip numbering starts from 0001 again. I know the clip will have a different time stamp, so it won't overwrite the previous clip with that number when I download. But for recording in the field, it is useful to be able to write down the clip number and subject. It would be helpful to keep consecutive numbering when changing cards, or at least after deleting and using the card again.
Is there a way to set this up? Have I missed/misread something in the manual? Or am I just spoilt because my still cameras carry on numbering photos sequentially regardless of how many cards I use.

I think you've been spoiled :-) As far as I can tell, there's no way to keep the numbering sequential on subsequent cards, it just picks up whatever the last track is on the card you've put in (or zero if it's blank) and works from there. As you say, it also puts a timestamp on the file so presumably Sony thought that would be sufficient.

Regards
Dave

So who is going to get the 9999 clips on one card that the numbering system allows for?

Having shot some badger activity this evening, I think I'll try deleting all except the last file and keep the numbering going that way.
