Is there a Sony consumer hi-def cam with low-light capability as good or better than the Canon Vixia HV-30? I currently have the HV-30 but need another small camera and want to investigate Sony's offerings.

Not tape based, but the the Sonys with the EXMOR R sensor should fill the bill. The latest ones are the XR/CX550V, look in the AVCHD threads for some discussion.
