Various Sony HDR-HCx series questions

I'd like to get a larger memory stick duo than that supplied with the camcorder.

The non-pro version seems to be 128MB maximum which may be all I need.

However, the pro versions which go up to 2GB, seem to be more cost effective at MB per pound sterling.

My concern is that I download from memory sticks using a Vaio laptop or Video walkman that predate the Pro specification and I'm unsure if they will be compatible

thanks for any advice

Steve

FCP Capture problem

I do think i have a cam. prob. When I try to "Capture Now" in FCP 5, I only get the 4-5 last sec of a clip. Tested both Auto and HDV Out on the cam.
Yes, I do have the correct Easy setup.
The use of AIC works O.K.

Anybody had the same problem ? Anybody hear of other with the same problem.
I have not yet tested the camera on another Mac, nor tested another HDV cam on my Mac.

Best regards, RUNE

Hc1

Hey all, I went to Best Buy today for the specific purpose of shooting some footage on the HC1. I brought a DV tape with me and shot footage in the store to compare to my little PVDV953 3Chip. I would have shot in 1080i but I dont have any HDV equipment to play it back on, so I shot in DV. I was a little impressed with this camera. First thing I noticed is that the single 1/3 CMOS has a much shallower DOF than my 3x1/6" Panasonic. I also predict the low light is a bit better (wasnt able to take it outside :-( ) Anyways...I shot some footage in DV mode, manually adjusted exposure and shutter. It is quite a bother to not be able to see what aperture you're shooting at...oh well I guess...Anyways...I am rendering out a 24p DV file right now on my powerbook. I used natress and color correction to see how good of result I can get. One thing to note is the sharpness of this camera...it has quite a sharp image in DV mode. I wished I could have shot 1080i. More to come.

Dear Moderator: Time for a new category??

Think we could get a new category for the HC3, now that that's starting to make its presence felt? How about adjacent to the Sanyo HD1, perhaps as the second entry under Consumer HD?

Short Effects Clip Shot With HC1

Here is a short effects movie I made. I made it in about an hour, so it could have been much, much better. I made this clip to test out some of my effects. First effect is my blank firing gun (Glock 17) with a silencer. The other effect is the 2 squibs in the dirt. I filmed this using the Sony HDR-HC1. I also tested out my sound effects skills. Tell me what you think about it and I hope you like it.

Here is the video:

Capture from HDR-HC3

Hi, Everyone
I just got my Sony HC3 and I bought a Firewire cable to transfer video to my computer using Sony software I was able to transfer a 5 min. clip but it shows very washed and in the LCD screen from the camera looks very nice and colorful, I was wondering if anyone had a similar problem ??? I tried using Avid Xpress Pro to capture but I can't it only captures as DV 30i also washed (no much colors)

I have a firewire cable 6pin to 4pin connected to my firewire port in the motherboard (ASUS with 3.2 Ghz P4 dual core Intel Processor), I can use Sony Vegas to capture in 1080i but is also washed very pale!!!! I import the file ti Avid Xpress PRO and use the color correction FX and is amazing!!!

I'm planning to buy Avid Xpress PRO, please give me some opinion!

Thank you

HC3 Clip: Monkeying Around

Apologies in advance for the cheesy music :)

http://www.bis96gw.f2s.com/video/monkey.wmv

Filesize is about 30Mb, WMV-HD format, Constant 8Mb/s bitrate.

Probably won't be fast enough to stream, so save to disk first.

All done handheld - surprised a monkey didn't jump on me ;)

Format video for Epson P-5000

I have a Sony HDR-HC1 and edit my video with iMovie HD, and I'm having trouble knowing which format to use when exporting the video to play on an Epson P-5000 Multimedia Storage Viewer. I've tried a few different Quicktime choices using the export feature of iMovie HD but the video ends up looking stretched, or it's choppy, or the resolution is low.

Can anyone recommend the best export settings to use to play my HDR-HC1 videos on an Epson P-5000 Multimedia Storage Viewer?

Is there a way to record a movie in cardmode - HC1?

I really like the progressive look of the card mode on the HC1 - is there a way to get it to record movies to the card? I know I can run it into the laptop, but I will have the laptop around...

Cinema mode footage

Can someone tell me if "Cinema Mode" or whatever Sony calls it on the HC1 - can it be identified by looking at the file details or by some other tag? IOW, is there a way to know footage was shot using cinema mode other than assuming such by looking at the video? Something like the EXIF data for photos?

Is there audio problem with H7 like SR1?

Hi ,

I bought SR1 and there is buzz recording when plugging external mic.

Just checking if there is problem with H7 when recording in HDV with external mic.

I have to exchange soon.

Thanks
Mike

Anyone have pictures of their new HC7s fully accessorized?

I'd love to see pics of your HDR-HC7 outfit if you've got one.

It'd be nice to get an idea of the appearance and extra weight an external mic and Beachtek adapter would bring, along with a wide angle lens.

Is anyone on their way to a setup like this?

HC1 head cleaning needed?

My HC1 is acting odd lately. I previously asked about "missing footage" with this camera - I shot some footage but some of it was missing when I played it back (originally about 12 seconds). I used a Panasonic head cleaner and more of the video went missing (now about 25 seconds are missing). But - when I hit "cue and/or review", I see the video playback on both the HC1's LCD and my computer via firewire.

Tonight I shot more video and there are dropouts all over the place. Again I can cue and review and the video is there, but when I am in play mode the video stops, pauses, stutters, etc.

The problems are repeatable, more or less - sometimes there might be a single glitch. I rewind and try again and there might be two or three glitches. I rewind and try again and it might go back down to one glitch, etc.

Could this be dirt in the playback head? If so, what kind of head cleaner do I need to get? Recommendations?

HDRI with HC1?

Has anyone experimented with the still image function on the HC1 to get HDRI's? Would it be safe to assume using the autoexposure for the midrange - and just raise and lower the exposure for the +1 +2, -1, -2 shot respectively?

X-Jacket coming for the HC series

I found a tidbit at Sky Systems. They are going to produce a X-Jacket for the Sony HC/HD series. I got a reply in an email that they are looking at release in the next couple of months.

The only statement on it is in the top right corner of their current product page.

CA with HC7 lens? With tele-adapter?

How is chromatic abberation with the HC7 lens? Which of the teleadapters is the right move?

I shoot all sorts of things, including birds in the sky, etc where CA will really show up...

HC7 - Define "Low Light"?

Before I take the leap and use my current SD camera as a trade-in (a VX2100), has anyone shot under stadium lights with one yet? Maybe a baseball or soccer game including footage in the stands? That is where I shot 70% of my footage during band season, in the stands of the band or of them on the field. Is that too close to the limit the HC7 can handle?

Dan Gonzales May 17th, 2007 11:16 PM

Are there any tests of the hc7 showing resolution/color/lux rating?

Just wanted to see test shots, especially at 15 lux and 60 shutter speed.

HC7 Not for Canada? (according to Sony ESupport)

So, if you've been reading my posts you know my frustration toward the HC7 arriving in Canada and it's about to get worse...

When I tried to search up support for the HC7 in Canada, this is what I get:

"Model Find

The model you have entered is only available in the following regions:

United States"

Could the HC7 be not available for Canada as is the SR8 is not available for the US?

I'm terribly sorry, my patience is running low and I just can't stand it...

Dbox HC3 is on the way!

I got my notice last night that my Bonehead Composites Dbox is in the mail. The helmet cam is go for launch.

link - towards the bottom of the page

Getting excited about building a helmet rig for my HC7* now. And you beat ya, I will post some footage from a mountain bike when I have it operational.

* - Bonehead says that the HC7 fits in the HC3 box.

I know you are curious. I am using some of the steps from here http://www.schieffer.net/8/headCamInstructions.html. I will make my own epoxy base, and will use a piece of Dr. Scholl's Gel as a damper (I may find that it behaves negatively - not enough info yet). I do want to find nylon screws to fit into the threaded flanges. They should shear in a bad spill and are less likely to penetrate if everything goes wrong.
