V1U and 35mm Lens Adapter

Hello! Has anyone had any successful set ups with a 35mm Lens Adapter and the Sony V1U? For a long time, I've been anxious to start filming with a 35mm lens, but I'm having difficulty finding a proper set up with the V1U.

I was looking at Letus, but the thread size for it is 72mm, and the V1U is 62mm. Am I supposed to get a step-up ring for this?

If anyone has a setup for this camera, I would LOVE to hear what you've got (Letus or any other brand).

Yes. That's how you set up for any camcorder that doesn't have the exact filter ring size of the Letus (or any other 35mm) adaptor.

Sorry I don't have direct experience with this combo - never had an adaptor on my V1. I'd certainly be thinking about the Letus Extreme, as its light loss is so low compared to other adaptors and we're already with small-ish chips on the V1.

Hello Christopher,

Glad to help. I bought the Letus Extreme. I went through ZACUTO to get it. I use their rail system. By going through them, I was able to get everything I needed, including the step ring all at once with no wait. If you order direct, it can take a month or two to arrive! Zacuto must have some in stock. Their rails are top notch. I just told them what camera I had, and that I wanted to get an Extreme. They figured out what step ring I needed, it was a 62-77mm but the trick is how it threads on, the 62mm needs to thread on the lens (threads stick out) and the 77 mm need to have the threads recessed. (I think thats how it goes, I put it on and haven't taken it off!) Anyway, here is what is printed on the step ring: B&W (1B) 77EI-62EA Made in Germany.

The reason it says 77 is because I am getting an EX soon, so I actually stepped it up to 77mm and had them send a Letus with the adaptor ready for a EX1 with a 77mm lens mount. Then you just need a 62mm to 77mm step ring which was $35.

It's pricey getting their rails, but soooo worth it. (@ $2200 for everything) Plus getting the Letus right away was worth it too! Its all sort of confusing that is why I would highly recommend going through Zacuto. www.zacuto.com

You will absolutley LOVE shooting with the Letus. It's not for every situation, but if you can take the time to set up shots and don't mind the extra weight (It's close to 17lbs now!) it's just great!

Regards,

Paul
