FX1 mic suggestions

Hello, I recently purchased a FX1 and with a shoot coming up next week I'm in a hurry to get some audio equipment.

I was considering getting the same ECM-NV1 mic that I used on my PD170 along with a BeachTek DXA-4 and a Z1 mic holder, but that setup would set me back over $400 dollars.

An alternative was to get a Rode or maybe an Azden SMX-10, but considering the Azden is only $70 I'm thinking it might be on the same level as the onboard FX1 mic.

Any suggestions would help, much thanks

Martin.

I've been very happy with the Rode VideoMic. I have three of them.

I would agree with the Rode Video Mike. It seems flimsy but I have used it over a year doing nature videos and am very happy with the sound. The rubber O rings can be purchased at an auto supply store if a replacement is needed. On the FX1 the sound level has never been above 4 with more than adequate sound levels.

Ended up going w/ a Rode NTG2 mic w/ an XLR to mini plug. Gonna go w/ the Z1 mic holder and Beachtek.

Martin, bypass the Beachtek and get a Juicedlink box. Camcorder XLR Audio Adapter from juicedLink
For one they are much cheaper in price than the Beachteks.
But even more importantly they have better fidelity, due to the built in low noise pre amps.

This is my exact setup on my FX1's:
-Z1 mic mount (which you mentioned)
-Rode NTG2 shotgun mic (good choice)
-Juicedlink CX211 (CX211)
-Sennhiser Evolution G2 wireless

Except for the most expensive Beachtek unit, ALL of the Beachteks will use a passive pre amp (no pre amp), which produces a much noisier signal.

Even the most expensive Beachtek with the built in pre amp, isn't as quiet as the Juicedlink boxes.

I'm running the exact same combo. I guess I'm ordering the CX211 tonite! thanks!

I did look at one Beachtek that said it was specifically for the FX1 but spending $330 on a mixer just didn't sit right.

i'm wondering do I even need the Juicedbox?

I just did a shoot w/ just the Rode NTG-2 (w/ XLR to mini cable) and the sound is amazing!

Auto or manual (on camera) controls, it came out much better then I expected.

I know that XLR is better then the mini connections but since I'm not really mixing anything (when I'm going to use the wireless it will be my only source of sound) do I really need the Juicedlink?
