Hi, I am using a Professional Sound Corp shock mount (59 bucks at B&H) with an extension that raises it slightly above the built in light shoe---It works great---no thumbing or other disturbing sounds.

Another option maybe - http://www.thej-rod.com/ At $50 it's almost cheap enough to buy just to try. Nice simple design too, almost looks like it belongs there. Anyone seen one of these in use?

Canon for Z1

B&H sold me a Canon mount that works perfectly on the Z1, raising the mic (with a rycote furry) on an ME66 high enough so even when I use a wide angle it is not in the shot. It is the lightwave MM XL1 mount. Cost $125.

It fits in the Z1 mic clamp like a OEM product. Haven't tried the others but this solved my problem of having the furry hang in the upper part of a Y angle shot.

Jack - that's the missing link - placing order next week - how that's ME66 mic? Suspect I'll end up with the same rig you have.

If you have the K6/ME66 in a Rycote Softie, the isolating rubber mount (comes with the Rycote) holds it all well clear of the lens, even when fitted with a 0.5x wide-angle converter.

Or am I missing something here?

tom.

Lightwave

George,

The Canon XL lightwave will fit in the existing mic holder for the Z1 It is rugged and adaptable, will carry a rycote and won't shear off. I have never had a problem, and it was worth the $125 from B&H. And better balance, leaving the shoe for either a mic or a light.

Me66

Hi George,

Forgot to tell you about the ME66. It has been very good. There is a lot of discussion and comparison of this mic with the 67, 416, Azdens, etc. It is a good workhorse shotgun mic. I use it inside and outside; needless to say it is better outside. I have been watching the mic trim a lot in the Z1 menu, because you can make some pretty significant adjustments depending on the ambient sound environment.
