VCL-HG0872 Wide Converter on Z5?

Hi,

Has anyone tried to put the Sony VCL-HG0872 wide converter on the Z5? I believe it should fit on the camera, but I can't find anyone who has tried it yet.

I'm thinking of upgrading my Z1 to the Z5, but I need to know which accessories I should keep. I also have a Vocas Matte box that can be used with the wide converter on the Z1 and hopefully I can keep working with this configuration.

Thanks!

wide angle converter

I bought the subject converter from the Sony Outlet in Pottstown PA a two weeks ago in anticpation of ordering the FX-1000 from B&H.
I received it Tuesday and to my displease Sony has, at least on the FX-1000, switched to a bayonet mount. I was screwed.. (pun intended)..

I assume the Z-5 has the same issue.

So yesterday I went back to Potstown and traded the lens in for a tripod, ($69.00 870M) (and Softcase $69.00 (normally $269.00)) Threw in a 4gb card and walked out after paying $26.00 difference.

Sony had been selling the converter for $156.00..

Sometimes ya win and Sometimes you lose..

BTW.... Just love my camera!!!

Thanks Rod, that is good to know!
Glad to hear you could trade the lens in for something else.

So I would probably have to buy the expensive VCL-HG0872x version with mattebox or VCL-HG0872k that will also fit the FX1000.

Wideconverter Sony VCL-HG0872 does not work with HVR-Z5 because depth of thread in diferent from HDR-FX1 or HVR-Z1.
I donīt know why.

Could be uses different Lens

Both the FX1000 and Z5 use Sony's new G Lens. That could be the reason.

I just got word back from Vocas. It turns out, that I can't use the new wide converter from Sony on the camera with the mattebox in front. But it will fit without the wide converter and also when you use the Century WA converter.

I've used Century converters in the past and there was always to much barrel distortion visible in the picture, to my taste.
So at this point I should just have to wait and see if the camera's 29,5mm will be wide enough on it's own.

Just a minute guys, are we saying you can't fit Sony's 0872 wide-angle converter to the Z5? The Z5 has a 72 mm filter thread, the 0.8x converter has a 72 mm attachment thread - so what's not to fit?

Perhaps the filter thread isn't deep enough for the converter. But I'm not sure.

FX1000 Mount

I can only speak from my experience with the FX1000 and the 872 (not the 872X)

Placing the 872 up to the glass , the threads in the 872 do not touch the sides of the screw threads inside of camera lens. Assuming the 872 threads were 72mm, I then begin to questions how I would mount any filters on the FX1000 Lens and What size they need to be.

Anyone have the answer to that? Anyone using filters?

Need tele lens for FX1000

Hey I am after a 1.4/1.5 tele lens for my FX1000.

Seems Raynox only make a 1.8 but that means on a full wide I would get the black circle which I don't like.

I'm betting my every last pair of boots that if you fit a 1.4x or a 1.5x telephoto converter to your FX1000 you'll also get vignetting as you pull back to wide.

It's a telephoto converter - treat it as such. If you want to film at 40 mm then it's much better to take it off and film at 40 mm with the camera's zoom only.
