Question about DV firewire out recording??

I have a Sony FX1000 (have not used it yet on a paid job) and was hoping that I could use the DV out to record a backup (SD copy) at the same time I am recording HDV. I have tested this a little and the quality looks Ok, but I hoped to find someone that does this alot and has found that it really does work. I plan on editing some of the footage in HD and the rest in SD... plus this gives me a backup copy incase there is a drop out. I know I could tape it in HDV and downconvert later, but I like having a good copy on reserve..even if it is SD. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
