battery charger with z5?

just went to charge a 'replacement' battery in this charger.

a. been 'charging' (the little battery symbol pulsing) for quite a while but no 'notching' in the symbol to let me know state of charge.

b. no display of elapsed / remaining time either.

worked properly with a couple of old sony batteries the other day.

am going to leave it go overnight.

my old sony charger worked happily with these batteries, as does the camera.

anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

charge indication

Are you sure the switch on the charger is on "charge" and not "vtr/camera" setting?

sure!

checked this morning and it was still 'pulsing', checked battery in camera and it's fully charged. so it's actually charging properly

i presume sony's put some more hard/software in their charger to limit my choice of battery to theirs alone if i want accurate read outs...

There's your answer. I didn't know they weren't Sony Batteries.

Sorry, missed the fact that it was pulsing. I've had the same thing happen with Sony batteries that have a memory problem, for instance after I accidentally dropped them. They still charge but don't show how long to complete the charge. The camera doesn't recognize them, but thankfully they do still power my LED light so they aren't a complete write off.

Ive found similar issues with non Sony batteries. Its looks ok but when the battery starts to drain it dyes pretty quickly eg 300 mins went to 90 mins very soon.
