Is unlimited continuous recording possible with the Z7? at DVinfo.net

By jumping to compact flash between tape changes and having overlap, and recording for 30 seconds or so while changing this should be possible? but for some reason the files in the CF never overlap, and somehow corrupt I think? Anyone had any joy with this?

Wait till the 128gb cf card release and you never change card the whole day again.

I haven't had the need to try it, but I remember reading about it in the manual

are you following the instructions & still getting a gap in the recording?

Hi John, I bought that exact card off E-Bay, I did have a small issue with one card and had to try another method to format it, but other than that they are hassle free. I preferred to spend more money on faster cards and they don't disappoint. I don't like running so close to the maximum bandwidth by using 133x cards and the slowest cards I have are 150x.

As for the overlap issue, you get the longest possible recording time by using a 32GB card in conjunction with an 83min tape. Use it in relay mode and then you can record continuously for about 3.6 hours. There seems to be an issue with changing tapes and recording when recording on card, you always loose a little even up to 4 seconds in my tests and I think it has something to do with the timecodes and tape slack having to start up again when going back onto tape. If you note the timecode, it is continuous when going from tape to card, but back again, the timecode starts again. There may be a way around this by setting your timecode to record one long continuous string of time, but this could in no way be very advantageous in the post process.
