My take is yes, you should still apply the fix. The buffer overflow is clearly a design issue and it appears everyone is susceptible to it, whether you've encountered it yet or not.

Thanks Jeff

Yes, even if you haven't encountered the problem you can still connect and see what firmware you have. As explained in step #5

5. If the update is necessary, “Current version”
and “Version after the update” displayed at the
bottom left of the dialog box will be different.
Click Next and proceed. (Fig-3)

Wondering if this is suppose to work with HDR-AX2000 AVCHD also.

I think not, It does not use the flash recording unit, or dual record. I have had no problems, and have not heard of any one with the AX having these issues.

advice on error message and shooting with cards only

I will be shooting an important oral history interview in NYC this Thursday morning....and will ONLY be recording to SanDisk SDHC class 10 16GB cards...I will not do the simul record with the FMU for the obvious reasons.

However, if I encounter an error message while recording to cards, what is the best step by step procedure to save my files and get the camera running again?

As you can tell, I like to have the advice now so if and when I get an error message I know what procedure to follow.

Thanks in advance!

John

Hey, all...been so busy lately. The user-installable firmware is confirmed and will be available the end of this week / next week at some point. More details to follow, similar to what's already been posted. Glad they did this as mailing these things back would be a bit ridiculous.

I haven’t encountered the buffer issue yet but will I need to update the firmware regardless?

Thanks

Quite simply - YES. Just because you have not had the issue -yet- it's the last thing you want happening when recording, whereby your camera will lockup and crash. Be sure to update it when applicable.

Here's the instructions.

Haha, yeah, if anyone was to find the initial versions and install it, their cameras wouldn't be working too well right now. Hang tight!

This applies to the NX5U as it's an issue with that specific camera and when recording with the FMU unit. There are no reported issues with the AX2000 at this time.

Marshall....now I'm confused. My Sony guy gave me a link and instructions today on how to install it.

Should I hold off?

Does this firmware update apply to all nx5 cameras - I own a nx5e - european version?

Thanks
Conrad

Ignacio Munoz May 27th, 2010 07:58 AM

Same question as Conrad. I own a NX5N.
