Back focus and regular focus

Has anyone had any back focus issues? I just got my NX5. I zoom in and focus and then zoom out, and the object is a little soft.

Re: Back focus and regular focus

This is an issue that more than a few people have noted. Send it in for repair and they should be able to adjust it easily.

Re: Back focus and regular focus

Here is a thread about that subject written by a creditable source early last year. That source also has a video showing the problem. I inquired at my local video camera shop about this problem, they contacted a Sony rep who relayed back to me that there is no known "back-focus" issue or problem. I've read quite a few threads about this camera and only a few people mention the issue. Perhaps it is an 'occasional' issue, popping up in only a few cameras per hundred. An anomaly of sorts.

I want to buy the NX5 cam, but the focus issue is the only thing holding me back. You might consider returning it to the seller and having another one sent. I would be real curious to see how your second camera worked out.

Re: Back focus and regular focus

The early units did have a focus issue and an issue with firmware. I have an early unit that Sony replaced the lens unit under warranty. Send it back for repair. Compared to most consumer models the detail settings is also way down. So once you have the backfocus issue resolved you may want to experiment with changing the detail settings too.

Re: Back focus and regular focus

In the interest of fair play with Sony, I just received my new NX5 with no back focus problem.
