I'm late to this thread but this reminds me of a problem that was consistent with the PD-100 DVCAM by Sony with the XLR hotshoe adapter. At the time, Sony issued a bulletin to owners to send their XLR adapter in to Sony for a fix. Not exactly sure what they did. I would get a ringing on the source audio and I believe Sony
did some internal fix on the unit itself. You could check with Sony and see if your adapter has a tech bulletin on this issue.
