Onboard XLR for power?
 

Even though I'm sure it would suck power, can you use one of the XLR connectors on th PDX10 to power a micro Frezzi if it has an XLR connector? This may be a stupid question, so flame me!

A neat idea, but not one that will work, I think. I could be completely wrong about this, but the XLR connectors that are used in lighting are a different type--they have 4 or 5 pins. The audio XLR connectors on the PDX-10 (and everything thing else) are the standard 3 pin plugs. So they wouldn't even fit.

I suppose you could wire your own, but I don't think you could pull nearly enough power from the XLR adaptor to run a light. The only power available through the XLR adaptor on the PDX-10 is a relatively small current for microphone phantom power, 48 volts or less.

I'll wait to be corrected, but I think this is accurate. You may have to do the belt-pack battery route. I haven't looked into it, so I don't know, but doesn't Sony sell an accessory light for their cameras? Wonder where they ask that it be plugged in?

A pretty neat idea, though...

Should have one a bit more research before asking this question, pin configuration and voltage is all wrong, you'd think it would work because it all hooks up through the hot/smart shoe on top of the camera. Thanks though!

Yes, actually, it's a great idea. Need to get Sony on to this...or we need a cool little light that runs on phantom power!

You'd pay an arm an a leg for something with that limited a production and as well, most likely burn out the flimsy conductors.

Camera circuitry wasn't built with a heavy current draw in mind.

Sony would prefer you to pay an arm and a leg for one of their lights which needs one of their expensive batteries, so you can also spend your other arm and other leg.

I would like to try one of those multi white LED lights... wonder if their are any camera mountable LED lights...

An LED light would be an excellent idea, although many of the high brightness ones still draw way too much power to run on phantom. The Surefire E2e with KL1 LED head that I carry in my pocket draws 1 full watt and gets hot to the touch in a few minutes. Given how light-sensitive some cameras are you could probably get away with much lower powered multiple LED's.

How about some of the new high end headlamps used in mountaineering, they are using small arrays of white LEDs. Some sort of universal mount design should be easy enough, don't you think?

I got answer again:

The price is € 480,--and it is sold from februari 2004

Today I was mailed that they will offer it in febr 2004 for a new price of €149,-!! Very interesting.

They said that the lightcolor is daylight and to be compared with a 7 watt halogen lamp, but because of the colour more effective.

I think i am gonna try it.

"The DigiNova should be in next month.
