				Sony ECM-HS1 Gun Zoom Microphone

Hi, I’m new in TRV950, and would like to use it for my friend’s wedding. Does anyone use it with Sony ECM-HS1 Gun Zoom Microphone? Is it worth to buy this microphone to capture sound in the wedding party? does the build-in microphone good enough to capture sound? Thanks

			Hi Angela

I got the ECM-HS1 with my TRV950... waste of money IMHO Sounds tinny and flat to my untrained ear... On board mic better, but not much use as soon as you move away from the subject...and very affected by wind noise... which to be fair the ECM wasn't. The subject of mics has been widely discussed on this and other BB's so have look at what others recommend.... Just FYI... I've just got a cheapish set of audio gear to go with my 950 ordered over the net from Zotzdidgial - XLR PRO from Sign Video - Shot gun mic - Headset and Mic combo - Audio Technica wired Lav mic for interviews... All this gives a much more controllable sound environment than the on board mic or ECM, both of which gave very mediocre sound on my first few videos since I've had the camera. For a party the on board would probably do ok, but I'm just beginning to get some sort of grip on sound which I'd never really considered seriously. Regards Gareth |

http://www.bealecorner.com/trv900/mic.html about a fifth of the way down the page to my test of the HS-1. Not a good choice in my view. tom. |

I read the Bealecorner stuff after getting the HS-1.... I should have figured it out though as "HS" means "Out of Order" in French. LOL Gareth |
