Capturing Stereo Sound from PDX10
I have been trying to capture the DV stream through firewire from my PDX10 with both audio channels seperately. So far I have only been able to get one audio channel. I can select which one, but I would like to get them both at the same time seperately. Does anyone else have any experience with this on this camera?

Not entirely sure as to your problem but if you've captured over firewire then you have indeed got two seperate audio channels. They'll appear as one "strereo" channel, but they could be completely different audio recordings.
In your NLE program you can "take left" and just hear the LH channel. Same with the RH channel. tom. |

I have captured over firewire but I do not get a stereo channel, I get a mono channel. Do you also own a PDX10?

Tell me what you mean when you say you get a mono channel. The PDx10s mics give a sort of stereo so that will be transferred via firewire as a stereo channel. If you listen on phones to the NLE audio, you'll find it as "stereo" as the camera could manage.

I'm not sure if I'm on the right track here or if this is what you mean with just getting one mono channel but I'll give it a go ( I have a PDX10P). When using the XLR I think that you can only get mono but my understanding is that you can get stereo with a separate stereo mic and the build in mic.
I made a test (not scientific, so maybe useless) and talked right into my camera and then captured the clip with Vegas and with Scenalyser and I noticed differences in the capture and have posted a question in the Sonic Foundry forum and my question is posted below. "When I capture with V4 from my Sony DV camera the resulting clip is always in mono but when I capture with ScenalyserLive the resulting clip is in stereo. When playing back the Vegas captured clips the L/R voicemeter indicates the exact same strenght/volume whilst when playing back Scenalyser (demo) clips the L/R voicemeter indicates different strenght/volume. The very same clip has a bitrate of 3.62 MB/sec when captured with Vegas and 3.70 when captured with Scenalyser (the clips don't have exactly the same length but my calculations are based on the exact length of each individual clip). The question is if Vegas don't capture DV in stereo, if there is something wrong with my set-up or if just doing something wrong when capturing (can't see how this could be the case since it is just to press the button). Anyone that has any idea what's going on? " Hans |

Tom,
I made the recording with two different microphones, a shotgun mic and a lapel mic. Through the headphones from the camera I can hear that there are two different tracks. When capturing through firewire both in Vegas and Premiere it does not want to capture more than one audio track that is mono. Guustaaf |

Hans,
Thank you for looking in to this. I am not familiar with ScenalyserLive. I will look at the Sonic Foundry forum. Guustaaf |

I have captured footage from the PDX10 to final cut pro without problems. I get both channels seperately.

I still can't get Vegas to capture more than one channel or in stereo. Have had a discussion vid SOFO tech support and provided them with sample clips from Vegas and the demo version of Scenalyser (stereo capture) but it seems as the problem can't be solved. Guess I will have to invest in Scenalyser (some USD 33, so not that big of a problem) for capture since Scenalyser capture the stereo from the built in mic.
