alternative for no built in mic for PD-150?
Here is the dispute: We need a mic that can attach to the camera and act as a built-in mic to use when our shotgun mic is not attached. We are shooting footage in the jungle, deserts and other remote extreme areas and need a simple mic permanently attached to the camera to pick up nat sound when we are in a rush for a shot and dont have time to get the shotgun mounted. The idea is to use a lav mic, but we'll probably have to design some sort of an enclousure for it so it can attach to the camera and not get destroyed. What do you think would work as a simple, small mic that we could attach to the camera?
Because we intend to have this mic always affixed to the camera it has to be out of the way of the shotgun and not interfere with our wide angle. Its a tough "in the field" kind of question. We dont mind having to build (or have designed) our own mount for this, we just need to find a mic to use. What say you? Thanks for the help. |

Light Wave Systems have a mini-mount that will attach via the shoe on the top of the camera handle. You can mount the short microphone that comes with the 150 (assuming that is not the shotgun of which you speak)
Lightwave will also make up a windjammer for the 150 microphone so the whole rig will sit up top and not get in the way of the wide angle. If the shotgun (a long one) gets into the frame with the wide angle, get a Sony CAC-12 mount which will bolt in place of the original mount and give another inch or so of extension. It also incorporates a ball joint so you can better stow a long microphone by reversing and pushing it down to the camera body.
