from south america, pd170 sound issue

please accept my deepest apologies for the cross post

im travelling in south america, and dont have any TIME on the internet.

so im sorry, REALLY sorry

im the proud owner of a new pd 170

BUT

cant figure out my sound stuff

using the standard pd170 mic. when i attempt to check sound with earlplugs using the mini jack, i get NOTHING.

during playback i get some sound through the lcd speakers. but im not sure of the quality of THAT sound

is it me?

should i leave my mic levels at the PRESET levels. or do i need to bump them up? im waiting to hear before i do, sound is always my NIGHTMARE

this is gonna sound REALLY lame but im not sure if i should be using 32 or 48 k. im gonna assume 48, thats what ive had it set at

once again, just using the standard mic, in input one. ch1&ch2, with it set on MIC, not line or mic att

this board is a real lifesaver for a loser such as myself

and once i learn some of this stuff, id be happy to help my fellows

best

Assuming you have the earphones plugged into the Earphone Socket, then you should hear something if you are hearing sound when the LCD is open. The volume control on the side of the LCD is also the volume control for the headphones. Try adjusting that.

For the standard microphone to work, you must also have Phantom Power turned on. Sounds like the other switches are in their correct positions.

Have you the manual? It is worded a bit strange and there is information missing but it does move you around the sound side of the 170 fairly well.

Go into the menus and turn off NR if you are using the microphone off-camera.
