New Sony soon?

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a new Sony mini-DVCAM in the pipeline? I just noticed that B&H has dropped the price to $2999. That is $400 less than it was 2 weeks ago.
I have been watching the price of the NTSC and PAL versions lately because I am getting ready to buy one of them. The PAL price hasn't moved from $3689 and is rumored to be hard to get lately but the NTSC price keeps dropping.

Oh and for the smart A's, yea I'm sure they DO have something in the works, I just didn't know if they had something in the SOON TO BE RELEASED WORKS.

I don't even recall hearing that they were at the DV show, but Canon and Panasonic were. Maybe it's just a good deal now, who know's.

I think you'll see Sony showing something at NAB (maybe only a mock-up under glass). The VX2000 replacement is due and what better way to clear the shelves than drop the price a few hundred dollars. It should be an exciting show this year.

There's no "smart A's" here. They're all over at 2-pop and dv.com

I'm looking forward as well to see what Sony's going to be bringing out. But I'm not holding my breath. If it comes, it comes.

Sorry, I meant "smart-A's" in the most loving tone, not like the "real" smart-A's at the other forums.
I do think it's going to be an exciting year for DV products also. I was actually thinking about it and maybe they lowered the price out of fear from products like the DVX100 closing in on their turf (I didn't think they, SONY, were really worried but I guess it is a possibility). I have actually thought about it (the DVX) but I think I am going to have to wait on that one. I am very familiar with the PD-150 already and it's quality (both video and audio) just really make me happy. Also I am also needing a anamorphic adapter but there isn't one yet for the DVX100. Hopefully Century Optics will add a bayonet mounted one for it in the future. (they don't seem to vignette as much)

I guess I am used to Apple's pricing schedule. If the price drops then upgrades are imminent, at least that used to be the case, until last week.

Pricing of camcorders is certainly influenced by marketing factors. One way to combat the DVX100 is to lower the price of similar products. It makes people think twice about if they really need the features the DVX100 offers over the VX2000. It's also a great way to reduce inventory levels. People who might never have considered a 3 chip model now have a camera closer to their price range. In essence you have stepped them up and presumably they will want that level of camera (or better) in the future.

Just to throw a little fat into the fire.

Maybe the next camcorder from Sony will follow in the lines of the IMX units and not be a DV camcorder.

Perhaps true 16:9 HD & MPEG?
