Oooh Exciting! If any possibilities I would love to see the cine settings on something colorful that has also lots of bright lights and deep blacks. Im interested in how filmlike the camera can act.

Still waiting for delivery info from UK supplier.

Steven Thomas November 21st, 2007 02:17 PM

Chis please try the vignetting test for us.

Chris Forbes November 21st, 2007 02:57 PM

I think waiting for the battery to charge is going to kill me.

I have to say having gone from a JVC DV500 that has a manual lens. The focus and zoom on this camera operate exactly as I'd expect them to. Very nice. Very solid.

I called my sales guy today to bug him about delivery and he told me they got a single camera yesterday that they were keeping for the showroom. But I ordered mine in Aug. so I was first one the list for the next shipment. So I went down to the showroom to see if I could play with their demo model and while I was there they got another shipment of 4 cameras. So I got to take mine home and when I went in I had no idea it would be there. Sweet. But the extra battery and card I ordered are still not there. Hopefully soon.

Sorry about the watermark that is my ebay ID

Rightclicksaveas Mirrors appreciated

this is outside full sun with both ND filters on. 720 24p and 60 fps on the slomo stuff.

Chris Forbes November 21st, 2007 05:11 PM

I still need to work on work flow. some of the clips I could import into FCP others were a no-go. i had more luck with the software for the larger XDCAM's than the one that came with the camera.

Steven Thomas November 21st, 2007 05:28 PM

Chris, I can't get this to play, using a PC. Black screen only.
Any chance of a actual mp4 file?

Chris Forbes November 21st, 2007 05:39 PM

maybe I cut together several clips to show diffearnt things DOF, Overcrank, and motion.

So I'll try to export it again in a PC friendly format. Right now it is MOV, video only, 720p24.

FYI keying with this camera is awsome. :0

Ola Christoffersson November 21st, 2007 05:40 PM

Same here! I tried Quicktime player, VLC, Windows media player, Zoom player and finally Power DVD. No luck! What format is this? It says .mov but the latest Quicktime version does not like the file.
Maybe it is using some kind of proprietary FCP codec?

Chris Forbes November 21st, 2007 05:53 PM

Sorry for the confusion.

Steven Thomas November 21st, 2007 05:53 PM

Chris, I take you're not seeing the weird vignetting that was seen between 10-25mm with Paul's camera.

Thanks a lot Chris.
I'm praying I will have mine mid next week!
Looking forward to your clips file.
Good news on the keying. I'm not surprised.
Looking at those 1080 30P still images posted a day ago or so, I was surprised how well the red car looked. I guess high rez pays off.

Chris Forbes November 21st, 2007 06:14 PM

I have not seen that but that was one of the clips that wouldn't import for me I'll have to redo that with different settings and see if that makes a difference.

Craig Seeman November 21st, 2007 06:25 PM

It looks to be Apple XDCAM 35mbps VBR 1280x720 wrapped in mov.

You may need Final Cut Pro with XDCAM codec installed to play these.

Quicktime will read the files IF you have that codec installed.

This should work better.

Steven Thomas November 21st, 2007 09:19 PM

Thanks Chris. It looks great, it's also clean.
If you get a chance, try a scene with someone that displays the tighter DOF.

Barlow Elton November 21st, 2007 11:19 PM

I'm diggin' it, Chris. Looks like the 720p under/overcrank is going to be a lot of fun to play with.

Thank you very much for sharing. :)

Barlow Elton November 21st, 2007 11:29 PM

Chris,

If you're interested in doing some extra testing, I'm local. I have an HD-SDI capture workstation. We could actually test the output and see if it's "real" 10 bit or not.

Enjoy you're new baby and please keep us posted on your findings!

Chris Forbes November 22nd, 2007 12:37 AM

Hey Barlow,
PM with your contact details. You have email disabled on your user name.

Chris, is the camera so much less sensitive when overcranking or did you just set it up differently - the slomo part is quite a bit darker than the clip beginning with normal fps?

Alessandro Zumstein November 22nd, 2007 03:52 AM

2 weeks!!!!!

Piotr Wozniacki November 22nd, 2007 06:57 AM

Chris, is the EX1TEST.mp4 stright fromt the camera, or did you recompress it somehow? The reason I'm asking is that it's not recognized by the Clip Browser ("unknown format").

Piotr Wozniacki November 22nd, 2007 07:14 AM

OK - it certainly is not a raw clip, the data rate hitting 43Mbps! Also, it plays with Quicktime (no audio), I guess you prepared it a bit for us:)

Funny thing is it can be opened by Vegas, as well...

Hello Chris, i have a question, do you have problems with the wievfinder and the lcd screen (Death pixel)?

Do you buy the camcorder by BH photo video?

Bill Heslip November 22nd, 2007 10:11 AM

When someone gets a chance, it might be fun to test a standard ExpressCard in the EX1 and see what happens. Hopefully, something good!

Chris Forbes November 22nd, 2007 10:26 AM

It is less sensitive when over cranking . . . but the exposure was my fault I was actually running both ND filters with the iris set to about 4 - 5.6.

I didn't buy my camera @ BH I believe local service is worth so much more. And we have a great place here in Salt Lake called TV Specialist. They are the best.

Yes the MP4 is not straight out of the camera. It was compressed with mpegstreamclip. For my windows friends.

Yes I do have a dead (stuck) pixel on the LCD. It shows as bright blue. But it is usually covered by the Icon that indicates which card your writing to and it's within .25 mm if the top edge of the screen so I am not to bothered by it.

Id love to try a non-approved Expresscard but I don't have any maybe monday I'll see if I can find one @ compusa.

Great -- congrats -- I am a *huge* proponent of buying locally. Well done,

Chris! I thought that was you! How are you man? I need to see this camera you got! You and Barlow both beat me to the punch on this one.

When you've got some time I wanna see more clips/screens of this EX footage, I'm really considering buying one.

Joe Carney November 24th, 2007 12:07 PM

The clip looks better in VLC media player than Quicktime. More staturation.

Chris Forbes November 24th, 2007 02:12 PM

Yeah Quicktime has a gamma problem if you are not running the latest one.

Hey Lowell, Barlow and I got together yesterday. I wish I had know. You could have come along.

Lowell Oswald November 24th, 2007 05:25 PM

Shoot me an email when you get a chance, I want to hear more about this camera. I need to sell my xl h1 and move to a 1/2" camera.

Tom Roper November 24th, 2007 07:53 PM

It's a nice little clip, but would be much more helpful if we could have one in the native, straight from the camera stream so that we can experiment with it.

Sean Seah November 25th, 2007 10:02 AM

I have a strange colour prob when I see it with Quicktime! Seems that some colour is missing and the sky looks orange! Any idea wat is the prob?

Chris Forbes November 25th, 2007 12:08 PM

Try VLC it is free and easy.
