Steve
"Letus Ultimate Summer Day" was excellent.
What kind of hardware did you use for the "dolly" shots???

Steve Cahill July 16th, 2008 08:36 PM

The Indieslider was used for the dolly type shots. I will be doing a blog about this. I customized mine a bit by lower the center of gravity.

Here it is for ordering @ http://www.indifocus.com/products_indisliderpro.htm

Raymond Schlogel July 17th, 2008 12:14 AM

Be interested in hearing how you customized your indisliderpro Steve. Did you just make a shorter mount for the head?

Robert Young July 17th, 2008 12:18 PM

Awesome device!
It's amazing you can get such distinctive shots with only 36" of leeway.

Paul Cronin July 18th, 2008 05:35 AM

Great summer clips Steve of a very nice New England Town.

Cool find on the indislider. Can you set it up a little off level and have it run on its own?

Thanks for your help with the Fisheye it is working perfect.

Beautiful shots! Hope to have you in Tokyo again at some point. EX3 to start distribution in Japan mid-August, so, I should have a full set-up with 35mm adaptor and convergent design nanno/Flash sometime at the end of September, early October!

Hi Dean. How much does the EX3 go for in Japan? I'm travelling there from Australia later this year, so just curious on the pricing there and whether I should purchase there or not, thanks.

I do not know if this includes any cards? I'm also not sure how the warranty works? I usually buy local for service reasons. I've bought lots of gear from fujiya-avic in the past.

Nice, thanks for that. Now I have to decide whether saving almost $4000AU is worth the potential warranty and import duty hassles :D

Alexander Kubalsky August 3rd, 2008 08:32 PM

David, I bought my EX1 in Tokyo, posted the box back and had EX1 as carry on back to Melbourne. No problem.
Dean, I was in at Fujiya Avic the other day. The have an EX3 in the showroom but wont have actual stock until september.

Dean Harrington August 3rd, 2008 09:34 PM

I guess it's stock out first to Europe and the US then ... Japan.

Thanks for the info. I'd probably put the box in the nearest bin :) I was thinking about knocking up a fake invoice just in case. I've been hassled before with carry on video gear that was actually brought and paid for in Melbourne. Next question is do I have the patients to wait till the end of September when I go....

Markus Bo August 4th, 2008 02:28 AM

@Phil: nice pics and a really nice story. Give us some more details!
How many cams?
What did you do in post?

Thanks
Markus

Phil Bloom August 4th, 2008 05:29 AM

one camera. loads of info on my blog! graded obviously.

just finishing off my little Siberia film now...

maybe get an EX3 this week too...

Selling because of this one of my EX1s. Boxed as new ex1, 2 8gb cards, all latest firmware, manfrotto 501 tripod. £3500. will give you run through for a few hours too...be quick before it is gone.

Benjamin Eckstein August 4th, 2008 07:09 AM

3500 Phil? Don't short yourself. There is certainly a premium to a Bloom-owned cam. I'd say double street price at least. Especially if you throw in a good bottle of scotch.

Ted OMalley August 4th, 2008 10:22 AM

Don't forget to sign the lens - really make it a collector's item!

Thanks for your EX3 review once again - it's one of the main reasons that my EX3 is sitting on my desk right now!

Steve Cahill August 4th, 2008 07:30 PM

ANOTHER "MASTERPEACE" MR. BLOOM! The helio shots not bad, as far as movement but if you really want them smooth then open up "Motion" and apply the stabilization, it is amazing how smooth it makes things, one recent helicopter shoot, it made the shoot look like a computer generated fly over.

Would like to hear your thoughts on the Zylight.

Phil Bloom August 6th, 2008 08:51 AM

hi steve

just got it.

ordering a couple of batteries now but running off the mains today was superb. what a light!

one piece of royalty free music, level playing field. Do with as you please!

Shoot on whatever you want!!

Dave Morrison October 5th, 2008 10:19 PM

Philip, as a filmmaker I'm sure you've seen this, but if not, PLEASE watch the opening sequence of "Days of Heaven". This music was featured in the opening montage. This is a beautifully shot feature mostly shot during the "Golden Hour".

Phil Bloom October 5th, 2008 10:26 PM

of course, just because it is familiar doesnt discount. I want to see what imagination can be done with a familiar piece of music! I want to be surprised!

Oh I like the music.. very moody. I have no hope of winning, my style is more 80s action movie than anything else.. but I might put something together.

Dave Morrison October 5th, 2008 10:30 PM

Yeah, absolutely NO complaints about the piece itself. I only wish I could do it justice!

John Woo style slow motion action set to music?

Put a beat to the music! Do anything as long as you use the music somehow!!

How about a hit man listening to it on ipod as he takes out his prey. Think laterally.

Of course you can. It is so malleable as a piece you could do wonders with it if you put your mind to it (and of course camera!)

Erik Phairas October 5th, 2008 10:43 PM

I will have something to show more than likely, never been afraid to try. I shot this with a 230 dollar youtube camera in about 30 minutes.. I am just now upgrading to pro equipment. But as you can see using odd music doesn't bother me in the slightest.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yZOLaU-otM

Nothing technical about it, just fun.. Me building my bike.

Phil Bloom October 6th, 2008 11:06 AM

two prizes!

$500 letus direct voucher and Magic Bullet Looks from Red giant software!!!

George Kroonder October 6th, 2008 03:26 PM

Winner takes all? Or gets first choice? Or which is the first prize?

George/

Erik Phairas October 6th, 2008 06:58 PM

Ha, I got an idea. but let me ask you this. Can we add a music sting? So if the moment needs a bit more tension, add a few notes from another piece over the top of the provided music?

Phil Bloom October 6th, 2008 09:43 PM

as long as the music features somewhere that is what matters. do as you want!

Mark David Williams October 7th, 2008 03:20 AM

Hi Phil

Just looking at your film confession and here are some of my comments I would have posted on the site but for some reason wasn't able to

Slow start needs some cutting here? That built to become totally absorbing. The end was good but would have been helped by a little more aggression.

Location was great Camerawork and sound all great Music pushed it along nicely. It needs something more at the end to show the Priests religion turning on him. Perhaps his cross falling or david gives him a verse from the scripture? Just something to show the Priests punishment and torment.

Phil Bloom October 7th, 2008 04:12 AM

That is sixth month old rough cut. Just seen finished edit "the echo". Hope to put it up soonish
