Sachtler FSB 6 Head for EX 3

Is this tripod head heavy enough for the EX 3? Or do I need to get the FSB 8 to hold it?

Thanks in Advance,

Dano

I have this combo and I wish it were a lot heavier when I get on the long end of the lens or when I switch to a heavier 2/3" lens. FSB6 is perfect for the EX1's, but I'd go FSB8 or more next time with the EX3. Hope this helps in your decision. I know it's money, but you will be cursing yourself over it later.

FSB-8 here with my EX3 and it balances almost perfectly on #3 when naked (not me, the camera) leaving lots of room for expansion.

Please read these threads and then I will be happy to elaborate if you have any question. Searching DVInfo helps quite a bit first.

We bought the Sachtler DV-8SB SL tripod rig. The DV-8 head is awesome and extremely flexible. We run our EX3 both with and without the Letus Ultimate adaptor. But even when we mount the Ultimate and our heavy 80-200 Nikon lens, the tripod has no trouble due to the extremely adjustable counterbalance spring (turn it up to 6). Same when we run the EX3 raw (no adapter). Just turn the counterbalance adjustment down to 3 or 2. Quick and easy.

I would make sure the FSB-8 will be able to handle that variety of weight ranges. Our rig with the Zacuto rods, Red Rock matte box and Letus Ultimate is around 20 lbs. Keep that in mind if you ever want to add anything in the future to your EX-3.

I had the same dilemma and finally chose the FS8, but I've been waiting 6 weeks for it to come from Germany...hopefully I'll have it within the next week.
