We can only hope that this can be addressed via a firmware upgrade on the EX-1. If anyone with connections to Sony can confirm or deny it's tied to firmware that would be most appreciated!

I am thinking it is the buffering. It would be interesting to know how long it takes for SDHC card to go into standby mode after the overcranking is complete. Have any of the testers noted this?

i looked Loosly, and at the most it went from ~3 seconds for the normal data rate to ~5 for the 2x data rate.
now i time it and it took ~3.26 seconds for the 720 60/24p recording was about 18seconds.
and it was relative ammount of time for both SxS and SDHC.

ATP 8 and 16 with MxM works full overcranking on EX1r, I have moved the camera around to get more stress for the system.

Older cards have issues, even without overcranking.

Can someone explain why I see the indicator light red while recording slomo on SDHC card (no error msg, record fine, playback fine, indicator red and turns green after the clip finished)
I think the card is close to its limits...?

the indicator for the chip memory does turn red when the data is going to the chip and not finished going to the chip, this is normal, it turns green when the memory is finished being written to.
THe Red on the chip writer led thing itself doesnt indicate that it is full or empty, just that it is presentally being written to.

i guess the idea would be, certannly dont pull any memory out when the light is RED :-)
