Flashing lights on my battery

I have just re-charged my BP-U30 battery which was exhausted. After a couple of hours charging all four lights started to flash. They are still flashing even after I removed it from the charger. The camera doesn't respond to the battery and when I put it back in the charger the charger light flashes from green to red (orange).

Any ideas anyone?

I do have a couple of BP-U60 batteries, but the U30 was always handy to have - just in case.

usually the chip controlling charge and discharges of the cells communicate with user with such behavior.
In that case it probably means something is going wrong in the battery.
The problem with these chips is they can disable the battery from charging or even from working even if the problem is small.

I posted this in another thread:

I had one of the Sony batts stop working for a while. I kept putting it on the charger over night. Sometimes a week or so between tries. Finally it just charged normally and started working.

My battery was showing no led's on the batt when tested. But behaved like yours blinking and even making charger beep slightly.

Keep trying. Just check every once in a while that the batt is not getting hot.

It is my understanding that Sony has no warranty at all on their batts.

But if it is brand new they should replace it.

Thanks Olof, I will give your suggestion a go. The battery is two+ years old so well out of warranty, although I have rarely used it. Just an annoying thing
