A few pointers for using XQD cards with PMW-200
After a little bit of frustration today, I finally got my 32 GB XQD card (in SxS adapter) running in the Expresscard slot of my MacBook Pro. I thought I would just post a few pointers and possibly save others the hassle.
You can easily format the XQD card in the PMW-200 and shoot on it with no problems. But to get the computer to recognize it so you can get the files off the card requires several drivers to be installed--in the correct order! 1. Download the SxS Device driver. (V.1.1.2.10220 is current as of this writing). 2. Open the package and first run the uninstaller to remove the previous version. Restart computer. 3. Open the package again and run installer. Restart computer. 4. Download the latest SxS UDF driver (V. 2.0.0 is current as of this writing). 5. Open the package and install. Reboot computer. 6. Download the latest XQD Device Driver (v 1.1.1.10220 is current as of this writing). 7. Open the package and install. Reboot. The XQD driver is not mentioned on Sony's site and without this driver, you will not see anything when you try to mount the XQD card. Boy that one had me scratching my head for a while today. Once all three of these drivers are installed--in this order!--it will work. Now if someone can figure out how to get FCP 7 Log and Transfer working with the UDF file structure, I would be impressed. It is important to note that you must install the V2.0 of the UDF driver because this is the one that supports XQD cards.

BTW, Sony has an instant rebate for $50 on 32 GB XQD cards right now, making them only $179. Still a lot of coin for a card, but a lot better than they were a couple weeks ago, and way cheaper than SxS.

Good heads up. Basically it treats an XQD card like an SxS card, but requires another layer of drivers.
Any similar experiences on Windows anyone would like to share? What I'm also curious is what the workflow is XQD wise on a EX1/EX1R. If there is a needle in a haystack out there of someone using firmware 1.30 and XQD on a EX1 or EX1R, I'd like to know. |

Exactly. And Sony never mentions the XQD driver requirement anywhere on their site that I could find! They only talk about the SxS driver and the UDF driver. Without the XQD driver, you are hosed!
