PMW-200: about to update firmware... just want to make sure...
 

Hi there,

Because I recall the fact that, when the first firmware upgrade was released for the EX1, EX1 owners could not do the update themselves (Sony had to do the first one; from then on updates were user-doable), I just want to make sure...

PMW-200 just arrived, with firmware version 1.01

I've downloaded (and copied to an SxS card) V. 1.10 for the PMW-200.

Can I safely (I have the update instructions) update from 1.01 to 1.10 myself?

If you follow the instructions and you're using SxS, as long as you are connected to reliable DC power from the BC-U1, you should be fine.

You should update because it has the "Auto FB Adjust" to adjust the lens' backfocus in case it is off. (Not keeping focus through zooms) The 200 has the same lens design as the EX1, so the same backfocus problem would exist on the 200.

The EX1 advisory was for if your firmware was below 1.15, because newer firmwares need new interface boards in the camera.

Hi everyone. I tried upgrading and i think i followed the instruction but the PMW did not detect any file in the SxS card.

Here's a screenshot of my card.

On the camera it says: 'Version Upgrade No File'

Could anyone tell me where I've screwed up please?

See if the file you downloaded was an archive. You need to un-archive it and the file on the card should be "UPDATE.BIN"

You could also try formatting your card in FAT mode for the upgrade.
