Re: The Next Big Thing Is Coming... 7.26.2012
No biggie. The PMW-200, basically the EX1R with 422 50Mbps recording capability.
|
Re: The Next Big Thing Is Coming... 7.26.2012
Yep, like an EX1R but with 422 recording, lower noise, wifi remote control with iPad, new LCD with incredible viewing angle, new lens servo, 4 channels of audio, Hypergammas, Genlock, timecode in and out, quick start mode, XQD card support, so no, nothing much really.

Looks like it will be about £900 more than an EX1R at launch.

Okay... I'm impressed. My question: it records 4 channels of audio. 2 XLRs. The other sources are....???
|
Re: The Next Big Thing Is Coming... 7.26.2012
The built-in stereo microphone, or you can send the XLR inputs to any combination of channels 1, 2, 3, & 4.
I've been shooting with four channels on my F800 for a couple of years and it is great to always have the camera mic being recorded no matter what I'm feeding to the XLRs. Or, I can use 3 & 4 (which always have auto-gain control) as insurance against over driving 1 & 2 when I feed them the same source. |
Re: The Next Big Thing Is Coming... 7.26.2012
Thanks Doug... when I was shooting news with BetaSX cameras, the channels 3&4 (on camera mic and wireless drop in, both on auto) saved us on a handful of occasions...

Alister, did you notice any improvement on the IR issue?
|
Re: The Next Big Thing Is Coming... 7.26.2012
Wasn't the IR issue fixed in the EX1R?

Re: The Next Big Thing Is Coming... 7.26.2012
I didn't check to be honest. Tight deadline and too many other things to look at. It's not going to be worse than an EX1R.
|
Re: The Next Big Thing Is Coming... 7.26.2012
I do think it is a significant improvement.
Wouldn't it be lovely if they could provide the 4:2:2 50Mbs as an upgrade to the F3. IR issue was improved in the F3 as well, not eliminated but greatly improved. |
Re: The Next Big Thing Is Coming... 7.26.2012
4:2:2 50 Mbps isn't coming to the F3. It is a chipset issue rather than firmware.
|
Re: The Next Big Thing Is Coming... 7.26.2012
No surprise that is not coming, but just for geek grins could you elaborate on the chipset issue?
|
Re: The Next Big Thing Is Coming... 7.26.2012
The F3 really wants a 10 bit codec like ProRes.

Remote by wifi...
what functions has wifi. Can you change parameters by wifi on the fly? |
Re: The Next Big Thing Is Coming... 7.26.2012
I don't know what the full feature set for the WiFi options will be. You will need to buy a CKK-WA01 wifi adapter. Then you will be able to use an iOS device or an Android device to control rec start/stop, focus and zoom as well as further function. I would guess that you will also be able to control gain and shutter speed. In addition you should be able to use XM-Pilot to log material and add metadata as you shoot.
