battery issue

For those of you using the Wasabi batteries, did you have to do anything special to get them to work? I have 3 that are fully charged that work great in my EX1R, when I put them in my FS5 I get a battery level low change battery pack and then it turns off.

Re: battery issue

Mine failed as well, sent them back and bought 2 Sony batteries.

Re: battery issue

I have had great luck with Swits. Better luck than Sony Batts.

Part of this camera's appeal to me was that I wouldn't have to buy extra batteries because I've been running an EX1R for several years.

Re: battery issue

Orig Sony batteries will work perfectly. You need the new 3rd party batteries with the new chips now. Old 3rd party batts won't work. Didn't work on my FS7.

Re: battery issue

Older BPU 3rd party batts like Swits need to have the cable on the battery plugged into the 12v in on the FS5, then it works fine. Don't forget to plug cable back into the battery when charging.

Newer Swits (and others I assume) have a built in chip that emulates the Sony Batteries.

One thing I have noticed on some third party batts is the the plastic case around the the terminal pins can be a bit sloppy, this can cause problems with pins hitting plastic before making contact or even suddenly disconnecting. I even have heard of some users with this problem on Sony batteries. The fix is to remove some of the plastic around the battery terminals, just be very careful doing this don't short the terminals (touch both terminals at the same time with a metal object). A countersink is a good tool for this cleanup.

Re: battery issue

I bought these that say they are chipped and work with the FS7.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o00_s00

I can confirm that they work in my FS5.

Wasabi Batteries for FS5

Hey anyone tried out the new Wasabis with their FS5 ? A few good reviews out there for FS7.

http://www.amazon.com/Wasabi-Power-P...ct_top?ie=UTF8

There are also the Kastar decoded BP-U66 batteries that get a few positive reviews, I've just never heard of the brand (while my Wasabis for Gopro, C100, etc have always worked perfectly).

Thanks!

Re: battery issue

Thanks Theo.

I read that the 60 gives 4+ hours of life ... so two plus the standard battery and ready to record all day.

Re: battery issue

I had 3rd party batteries working but after the 1.1 firmware, I now get the battery low message and they don't work.

Re: battery issue

Get a D-Tap to DC-IN cable. This replaces the pigtail from the old batteries on the newer batteries, cause Sony will ALWAYS find a way to make coded batteries stop working.

Re: battery issue

I've heard that the newer chipped 3rd party batteries will often work, but will sometimes cause the FS5 to reset back to initial settings, requiring the clock to be set upon powering up.

I had this happen once with an older Wasabi battery that worked fine in my ex1.

Has anyone experienced this?

Here's an example from someone else.
