News from Kodak
Another big name in focus today: Eastman Kodak (EK, news, msgs), the worst Dow stock of the past year, which announced it will scrap much of its current camera line. Kodak said it will stop making its Advantix camera line by the end of this year, and stop making cameras that using 35mm film for the United States, Canada and Western Europe.
The stock rose 1.5% on the news, which reflects the growing move by consumers to digital photography. But Kodak will stick with 35mm products in much of the rest of the world, where usage is still growing.
Kodak was the best of the Dow component stocks in the early going, a rare position for a stock that fell 31% in the past year. Kodak is slated to report earnings for its fourth quarter and its outlook for 2004 on Jan. 22.
