Hosting Completed Work On My Networks
Hi all.
Im starting up a small business producing and directing music videos. I have a site and social network sites, including youtube are all linked in on the main page. I like the idea of uploading all completed work onto my own/the company's youtube channel rather than allowing the bands themselves to have to upload the videos to their own site/account. Obviously its better that all the videos are in one place and I clearly like the idea that I am in control of the content (saves the problem of a band having their yt account banned etc). First of, I assume its legal as long as I state this in the terms and conditions. I can talk up the benefits of it too. Second, I cant imagine ill, at least initially, be dealing with bands with big fan bases but if a band argued that they wanted it uploaded to their account then what is the best cause for action? Simply keep a backup available for myself? Basically, im just figuring out how important this issue is. Any help is appreciated. Shaun |

Depends on who owns the finished product. Do you hire the bands to perform in videos you produce or do they hire you to produce videos for them?

Re: Hosting Completed Work On My Networks
Then while you can offer to host the video for them, you can't just do it on your own initiative without their permission. Their performance is their property, not yours. You probably own the copyright on the video as its creator but that doesn't mean you can use it for anything other than what the band has expressly granted you permission to do with it.
