I'm creating a website with Wordpress. What is the cheapest hosting option?

I'm creating a website for my filmmaking with Wordpress. I'm making it very simple and I'm not hosting any videos since everything will be linked from Youtube or Vimeo. I want a cheap option for hosting. The options Wordpress offers are all over 50 dollars a year. I'm thinking there must be something cheaper, such as GoDaddy, and if I want to eventually make a more comprehensive website, I can change hosts.

Any thoughts on this? What is a good cheap host for Wordpress?

If you're not hosting anything you can just get a domain and point it to your Wordpress. They charge for it but it's still cheaper than hosting.

Wordpress.com is very limited, I would suggest hosting it yourself.

But honestly, fifty bucks a year is cheap cheap cheap. You're going to burn through more than $50 worth of time searching for a better deal. Stop spending a dollar to save a dime.

1&1 is very competitive and I've been pleased with their performance. We use a 1&1 account to host about 30+ Wordpress sites. That keeps our co-located server free to host the more advanced stuff. $4.99 per month. http://www.1and1.com/linux-web-hosting

Ditto what Chris said. I use 1&1, too. Flawless.

hostgator, another "commodity" web host that does a great job! I've been very impressed with the speed of their support when I've needed it.

You can go with StableHost - Affordable Web Hosting

or Shared Hosting, Reseller Hosting and Virtual Web Hosting - Hawk Host.

If you choose to sign up with either of these go to RetailMeNot: Coupon Codes, Coupons, Promo Codes, Free Shipping and Discounts for Thousands of Stores and get a coupon code. Always remember to register your domain name with a company other than your hosting company.

Why is it important to keep them separate?

Re: I'm creating a website with Wordpress. What is the cheapest hosting option?

I use godaddy, signdomains and justhost for domains. For hosting I use justhost.

I keep them separate for two reasons:
1. The hosting company does not always have the cheapest deal
2. If I don't like any company I can drop them with the least amount of work.

Unfortunately, under the hood, many companies are run by a single mother company. So you might be jumping off the pan into the fire.

I you don't want to pay there's always Facebook.

Hi Noam — did you already go ahead with it? Just wondering if you know the difference between Wordpress.com and Wordpress.org. If you just need a very simple website, you could use Wordpress.com. Your URL will look something like this: NoamsWebsite.wordpress.com
You can also buy your own domain, and have it set up domain forwarding so it goes to your Wordpress.com site. Visitors will see the site as NoamsWebsite.com There's a small charge for that.

A Wordpress.org site is hosted either by you, or by a web hosting service. It is far more powerful, but still fairly easy to set up and maintain a basic site. The Wordpress software is free, and will by ready to install on your host's admin panel. If you don't have much traffic, your monthly hosting cost could be under $5.00
