Um, how about sharing your answer with the rest of us then? This is a two-way street, people want to know too.

I apologize.

My original question was based on something that was vague, basically, while researching permits it said something to the effect that non union shoots can not occur within a certain mile radius of columbus Circle in NYC unless it was school based. I was looking for verification elsewhere so I was checking the threads to see if this was true. Found instead another thread where some guy wanted to film outside of Paramount and again it mentioned something about being within a radius of union shoots.

Being that my movie needs to film in three locations in NYC I needed confirmation that I could or couldn't shoot since I'm doing this as a Non union, non student film.

Finally I called up 311 in NYC and they put me through to the permits department and they said that it's false. I could shoot anywhere in NYC, union or non union, student or non student, I just have to provide proof of insurance.

Thanks for the update, Ryan. I called our city's film office about getting a permit last summer, expecting to be quoted a price I coud not afford. I got the permit for free, which I could flash to anyone nosing in.

Your bit of shared experience is useful to anyone who may think there are too many hurdles in their way.
