Anyone who brings up Micheal Moore in this thread gets their post instantly deleted, so don't ask why it goes missing.

Also, no political discussions either.

Carry on. :)

DEFINITION of Propaganda -

"The systematic propagation of a doctrine or cause or of information reflecting the views and interests of those advocating such a doctrine or cause.

Material disseminated by the advocates or opponents of a doctrine or cause: wartime propaganda"

Anything specifically put out by any special interest group including the government, might reasonably fall under that definition.

As far as a fictional narrative feature film??? That's a bit tougher.

Bush and Arnie slammed for fake news clips
(iol.co.za) Los Angeles - The Bush administration has produced news look-alike propaganda clips and successfully persuaded television news stations to air them uncritically.

As many as 20 government departments have produced fake news that stations relayed as though they had produced the segments themselves, the New York Times reported.

In California, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is at the centre of a growing controversy over the use of public funds to make pseudo-journalistic films touting controversial policies and passing them to local television news stations, which have aired them without comment.

How about this a blatant propaganda:

Good videography doesn't make propaganda true, but as Billy Crystal often says "Its better to look marvelous than to be marvelous!"

Going back to the first definition... 'systematic' seems to be an important defining word.

PSA's certainly qualify as systematic - "Just say no" and the anti-drug campaign, is by the above definition a systematic approach at putting out a specific viewpoint.

Don't know of a systematic approach that centers on feature films though. Today, it's more likely to take the form of short psa's and fake news commentary. Remember, there was no television in WWII, so a strict comparison isn't possible. But had they had it, you can bet Hitler's people would have been masters at the sound bite.

How about Wag the Dog. It's about the government making it look like a war is taking place that does not really exist.

"Wag the Dog" is about propaganda, but I wouldn't say it actually is propaganda.

Regardless, if anyone here hasn't seen it, you definitely should.
