upgrading from 1/3 to 1/2 or even 2/3 ccd?

at the time i been using a 1/3 (xl1-s) almost all of my jobs are stationary, in a theater/ studio setting. (live only)
would like to upgrade, but need some advice/ comments from the professionals here. which camera, and why. even some links to read up whould be fine.
i like to get a better pic quality. since those cameras are also very expensive, i wonder if some of you have suggestions for me please.

could it be , that i been way out of my league here?

thanks

do you have a price range in mind ??
should we assume your price range would include camera, view finder, lens, batts?
would your current tripod hold a 2/3" size camera ?
