hi! having a dabble!
I suppose spending almost 6 grand on a camera and tripod is getting serious! But I'm still dabbling! Filming anything that I get asked to from weddings to conferences and coporate vids. Biggest so far being a Ģ30 million pitch for a water company 3 years ago - won the pitch for them...heh..heh!
And guess what? It's back up for pitch at the end of this year! Anyways...off for a dabble! PS. No copywrite in that phrase as far as I know. |
Yippy Kai Yay! Montana!
Hello, I've been reading in on as much as I can and I finally thought to introduce myself. I just graduated from college with a degree in Biology from Lewis and Clark college and i'm trying to get into documentary film, there's a sweet masters program on science and natural history filmmaking at MSU bozeman (where i live coincidentally), so that's my current aspiration. i've been into video since highschool and recently upgraded to a panasonic ag-hvx200, which seems pretty sweet (if i only knew how to use it) thats about it.
oh, i'm running on: Dual PPC 2.3 Ghz. G5, 2.5 Gigs RAM, 250 Gig interal, 150 Gig Firewire external, Panasonic AG-HVX200, 2 4GB P2 Cards, Cartoni Focus, iKam 7 inch monitor, and a Redrockmicro micro35 adapter...it's all kind of heavy. |
Columbus Ohio question!
I saw Chris Barrow's post and thought I would try it myself. I have a different perspective though. I am in the medical field and know absolutely no one who does video either professionally or as a hobby. Anyone out there know of anyone in town here? Suggestions on organizations or places to meet other video enthusiasts? (Not that you all haven't been of great help!)
Thanks- Leslie |
Independent filmmakers in New Mexico
Hi all,
I'm fascinated with the creative possibilities with all the new gear that's coming out. This stuff is within reach of the average guy, too. My film background includes 16mm newsfilm 30-odd years ago as well as work in a 16mm post-production house, where I did color-timing and a bunch of other stuff. My interest is in contributing to dramatic films, but I'll certainly try to help someone else in my area who has his/her own vision and needs assistance. I'd like to see interested contributors here in NM find a way to contact each other to work on indie projects, so begun organizing an alliance of filmmakers. The New Mexico Independent Filmmakers Alliance: http://www.nmifa.org/ Hope to meet some other interested folks in the area, soon. Cheers, Stephen H |
I'm in Dayton, about an hour away, but I seem to make frequent trips up to Cbus to visit friends. Not sure if that really helps you in any way but I'd be glad to come up for a meet and greet with a group of video nuts.
|
Hey Jacob,
That would be fun! Do you know any groups that are established around here? I am the only one in my group of friends that is interested in video, and it would be great to meet and learn from a bunch of people, plus see what they are doing. |

Need some help in Edmonton
Hey everyone,
I was wondering if there are any people from Edmonton who know of any good electronics stores for video gear. I've tried the online yellow pages and Froogle and haven't been able to come up with anything. I'm leaving tomorrow (Sunday) morning so if anyone could suggest something before then, that would be great. Thanks! -Mark |
Bendigo (Aust) DV enthusiasts?
Hi there
Just wondering if any video enthusiasts from the Bendigo area in Oz are about? Would be great to meet some loca people who might be interested in forming a small amateur movie making club, or might know of one already in existence. I have a Panasonic GS400 and have been right into learning and practising all aspects movie making for the past couple of years. I have completed a 30 minute 'choice making' DVD aimed at primary school aged children, plus a couple of pretty rough short flicks, clips etc. I am currently in the midst of getting a short movie project I have written into action. I have a home built 35mm DOF adapter based on the agus35 which is capable of capturing some great film look video and have quite a good audio/light set up. Have learnt so much from 'the net' via websites like this one and the Pana3ccd forums. Would be great to get to know some people around here to help each other out on various projects etc Soooo if you're out there and you can help or are interested be great to hear from you cheers Jamie Roberts |
Scott:
Welcome. I also have a Sony DCR TRV20 Handycam. Nice little camera that takes great pictures. I did my first three weddings with that camera. Now I use it as a deck. Anything you ever wanted to know about video and film production is here. You've come to the right place. Grab a beer in the fridge and join us out back. Boyd: Where in Mays Landing are you? |
Sanyo HD1 shooter in Tokyo--Jonathan
Hello, I'm Jonathan in Tokyo. I just got a Sanyo HD1 SD memory camera, and will be heading to Vietnam to shoot with it. Anyway, I joined the list to get a user's manual in Enlish.
Originally from Manchester, Iowa, USA--and my favorite camera is the Pentax K1000. I've dropped that thing in creeks, drop-kicked it, abused it in millions of ways, and it still takes respectable photos for what it is--the Chevy Citation of cameras. Jonathan |

HongKong
I hope I am not OT with this one.
I already introduced myself a few months ago, but now I am off to Scotland for a few weeks in St.Andrews. On the way I will be transitting at HK. My family and myself have 9 hours wait at the airport. So we are taking the Airport Express into HK to have a few hours sightseeing. A 1 hour ferry trip around the harbour is on the cards. Maybe take the MTR from Central over to Tsim Sha Tsui before going back to Sentral and then back to the airport. I am a bit apprehensive about all the tales of pickpockets etc. I will be carry a nice new Sony Z1. If there are any ex-pat video folks with a little freetime on Monday 18th and you are interested is having a chat and maybe pointing us in the correct direction, please let me know here. I will contact you privately after that. |

Hi from Alaska...:-)
I'm a long time "lurker" on these boards that decided to join up for real.
After i graduated from college with a degree in TV production/broadcasting, I worked as a news photographer/editor for awhile, then ended up starting my own video production company because the pay was so crappy working for TV stations. So now I shoot and edit, make graphics, score music and everything else .....sometimes the work gets slow around here but it gets busy sometimes too. Right now is busy because it's political season here. SO hi to everyone, and thanks for all the great info everyone continues to give out on this board, it has helped me in the past! Feel free to check out my demos on my website......the website isn't much but I needed to put something up with demo videos for clients to look at. www.gforcevideo.com |

Hello, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to digital video. I just got my HD1 camera and starting to shoot videos, mostly of my newborn daughter Mila. For editing I'm trying to use software from Ulead; editing and creating dvd's.

I registered under an alias, in case you couldn't tell. Then I realized all the warnings of no aliases.
I'm willing to change my member name to my real name, Casey Fisher, but don't know how to do this. Thanks for any assistance. |

Denver Area Test Screening August 1st
Just wanted to say hello to all the Colorado filmmakers out there.
We're wrapping up post on our locally shot HDV indie film and we're holding a DVD test screening next week to get feedback on what's working and what's not working. I know I'm always interested to see what others are doing on low budgets and now I have something to show in return. It won't be a completely blind test screening (a lot of people will probably find it through the MySpace page) but we're asking close friends and family to hold off, so that we can get as objective of feedback as possible. The theater seats 160 and the more people we get the more feedback we get. Here's the details - Time and date: Tuesday, August 1st 7 - 9 PM Doors open at 6:30, film is at 7. After the film you'll be asked to fill out a comment card. Anyone wishiong to stay afterwards for an open discusion is free to do so. Location: Starz Film Center 900 Auraria Parkway Denver, CO 80202 RSVP with your name and the number in your party to wctestscreening@gmail.com Admission is FREE and parking is validatred FREE with your ticket stub. www.myspace.com/westacremovie Thanks! |
Hi from sunny(shocking!) Northern Ireland
Hi everyone!
I am from a small village in County Down in Northern Ireland. Anyone from the locality is welcome to email me for a meetup and discussion. I am interested in making short films. Let me know? |
Hello to all from Costa Mesa, CA
I have always been reading these forums and others as well, and I think this is by far the most popular and my favorite. With so many people learning from each other and asking questions EVERYDAY on so many subjects, why not be a registered user and avid reader, right. So I finally signed up today and am happy to do so.
I work at a communication company called SoftMirage and also with the joint company SM Sold that does 3D conceptual renderings and videos, websites, and video/DVD production. I obviously only do the latter part and work with luxury real estate clients, land developers, and misc. clients, and produce luxury property videos, land development videos, sales/promotional videos and also our podcast. The corporate videos that I produce and sometimes replicate are usually a mixture of HDV video and photos with animated text and/or graphics. I operate the HDV Sony Z1-U camera, we rent a 0.6x wide-angle lens and occasionally a MicroDolly Jib, and I use the programs Sony Vegas 6, DVD Architect 3, Adobe Premiere 2, After Effects 7, Audition 2, Encore DVD 2, Photoshop CS, and Illustrator CS. I will be posting away now and offering my advice as well. One question though, when I reply to a post or start a post, I can't seem to add any attachments. Can someone let me know how to do that? Thanks. Ramon |

Hello From Southwestern Wisconsin!
Hello, I have been registered to this forum for awhile now but I have never introduced myself. I am 17 years old and an aspiring filmmaker/videographer. I own and shoot with a DVX100A which I purchased with hard earned farm work funds( I live on a farm, anyone need a location?) Anyone else from my neck of the woods? Thanks to everyone for sharing their wealth of knowledge on this with novices such as myself. Hope everyones summer is awesome!!!

Hi, I'm new in the neighborhood
Could someone let me borrow a cup of sugar?
All seriousness aside, I have lurked on this site for a while and really appreciate the advice given. I work for state government, but have managed, in my spare time to have learned enough DV and FCP to produce a weekly local TV show on UPN in my area. Now, in my waning years of day employment, pre gold watch day(in the next 18 months), my agency decided to go DV for digital content in training materials. Bottom line is, I get to have fun both day and night. Again, thanks to all contributors for the wisdom. :-) |

Hello Stephen. I live in Las Vegas NV, and am eventually looking to move away from here. Right now, the number one spot I would like to relocate to, is New Mexico. I have been looking at Santa Fe. I still don't know when this would happen, but I always am looking to network. I work with an hd100, and am wanting to make docs, music video's, and eventually indie films.

Re: New Mexico filmmakers
Great, Jason.
There's a lot of activity both in Santa Fe and in Albuquerque. You may want to check into NMIFA, at the link in the first post, and also join our meetup group, where we schedule events and do member notifications: http://indiefilm.meetup.com/154/ Stephen H |
