any female videographer around iowa?

hi folks,

like you can see, i'm new here or as you 'labeled' my status: a tourist *he heh*
i was browsing this forum for about half an hour and couldn't help but feel 'intimidated' with all of those advanced-level discussions *and the fact that the majority is male*
soooo... i was wondering if there is any female videographer here... preferrably around iowa?
somehow i feel less intimidated discussing with fellow female videographers *or am i wrong?*

oh yeah... i am a newbie. learning from books and tutorials (and practicing).

Welcome aboard Diny! Good to have you with us. I can imagine
some of the discussion would seem high-level. I had the same
when I joined here first. That will pass!

There are some women here but not a whole lot. Perhaps you can
bring some more along?

We try to do our very best to maintain a friendly athmosphere
and environment here. So hopefully you'll be less "intimidated"
as a result.

You already made the first step!

I see from your profile that you have the XL1S (as do I). What
are you (planning on) doing with it?

Lorinda Norton February 18th, 2004 07:08 PM

not exactly IA

Without fail, every mail order rep east of the Rockies that looks at my address (ID) says, "Nampa, Iowa?" But, alas, it is Idaho. Can't do anything about the distance, but I'll pitch in when I can if it will help you feel better. :) I'm not all that experienced myself.

So much has been discussed on this forum that many of your questions can be answered by doing a search. Then if you don't find what you need, by all means, ask! 99.9% of the folks here don't bite, and are quite willing to help. Nice, too. :)

Have fun!

IA is Iowa. ID is Idaho.

No kidding? :) I think that's what I said. Subject line just means that I'm not very close by, and if you'll read the rest carefully...

Diny, I meant to add that if you ever want to shoot me an email, you are welcome to do that, too!

Sorry. Got you two mixed up. Had the same problem when I was dating.

Rob, I don't have a clue what that means, but you cracked me up.

Diny, like Rob and Lorinda said, everyone here is at a different level of expertise and that's what makes it great. And as Lorinda suggests, try searching first to find info, but then never hesitate to ask.

well, actually i'm trying to be an event videographer. did two weddings already [for free]. realized that tutorials and books and practicing alone aren't enough. will be going to vegas in 3 weeks to attend some kind of gathering --indonesian women who got stranded in the u.s. he heh-- and will do some filming to make it as my portfolio so to speak.
hidden ambition: to make cultural documentaries on indonesia [obviously] and jamaica.

saw your web, and i think lady x is hot!

well then, that makes me feel better. thought i didn't say it correctly when i said 'iowa' then people said, "oh yeah... i'm from idaho too"

thank you for replying and i will email you for sure!

Diny Patterson February 19th, 2004 10:13 AM

for john and rob [belics], thank you for your responses.
i did try 'search' but sometimes the results didn't match... perhaps the keywords i typed need to be more specific.

Kris Holodak February 20th, 2004 08:45 AM

I'm not remotely close to Iowa, but in some ways that's the beauty of the forums, you don't have to be near each other to connect. All the forums seem to be guy heavy, but I bet there are more women lurking out there than we realize.

Smile,
Kris

I still haven't figured out of i'd be considered more advanced or still a beginner. If you have any "dumb" questions you might feel embarassed about asking, feel free to ask and i'll help you out any way i can. You'll find that stupid questions usually get the most thorough responses, though because everybody knows about it and everybody will have an opinion. I've been here for a whopping two days now and everybody seems to be friendly.... no bites yet. i'm looking out for Chris and his watchdog, though. ;)

I don't know why they don't display my email address, but whatever.

Jeff Donald March 1st, 2004 04:56 PM
