MD Eastern Shore (the other state)
I've been doing home video since 1979. My first camera was an Akai about the size of a TV studio camera, with a separate 11 pound recorder and separate power source. Took a lot of video when stationed in Europe with the Army. Now, I'm beginning to put my experience to use in the modern world of DV editing. I'm just starting up Sea To Net Productions. I use the Canon GL2, and a large studio Panasonic WV F300, which amazingly looks like my first antique camera, with its separate AG7400 recorder. I use Adobe Premiere 6x, with the Matrox RT2500.
I live in Cambridge, Md, and we are really considered a different state from MD ;-). I've worked here in radio since 86, but do it part time only now. I really wish I had this equipment during my radio haydays, when I did celebrity interviews. Oh well. There doesn't seem to be very much DV action around here in Rural Md. I'm a WEVA member, and there is only one other member listed on the Eastern Shore. So, if there is anyone else near-by, I'd enjoy an introduction, and a chance to network. My only kudo so far is a Communicators Award for narrating a video on the building of the last skipjack in the 20th crntury. Any other "marsh mud in your shoes" crabbers out there?

Hi Steve - I'm actually on the 'Western Shore' aka SoCal, but my mom and brother are living out your way in Salisbury. He owns a NASCAR store in Laurel, DE and his g/f is the editor of some newspaper in Ocean City. Not that any of that actually means anything, but I just wanted to say hi and welcome to the board.

Thanks. I know the place. Maybe I'll stop in the next time by! By coindidence, my tie to California will be tonight. I'll be on Tech TV's "Tech Live", with Lindsey Arent about an e-mail problem I'm having. I think Lindsey is going to plug my fledgling production comapany in the piece. You can put a mug to this name now ;-) steve

Shore
Hi Steve,
I understand what you mean when you talk about the ES as its' own state; in many ways it is. I just joined the site today so I am new around here and trying to figure out how to maneuver these pages. I live in Fruitland, just outside (200yards) the Salisbury limits and do higher-end remodeling work in the area. My videotaping experience is primarily recreational although I also film the local ballet company performances in Salisbury(one upcoming the last weekend of this month). This began as an outgrowth of my daughter being an early member. Now she dances at Busch Gardens and I film those shows also. I only have had my GL-2 for three months and am in the process of "accessorizing". Nice to hear that someone else from the shore enjoys the same interest. Tom |

Hi Tom
I'm still learning the fine points of my GL2. So far, I havn't found any money jobs, so I guess I do it for fun also! Guess I'm gonna have to do a free wedding, so I have something to show. We use to go to Fruitland a lot (the Super Walmart!). I also once lived in Williamsburg, directly across from the Busch Gardens Brewery. Might run into some day... while I'm taping something else for free ;-) steve

Steve,
My daughter currently lives across from the park. Opening shows begin this weekend. Sounds as if it should be a good bit of fun since it will also serve as a St. Patty's Day celebration in the Ireland section of Busch Gardens. I'm really eager to try out the GL outdoors in a performance setting (amphitheater). I have only used it indoors to date. Fortunately, I am paid for videotaping the ballet performances. This surely helps with purchasing additional gear, especially because I have so many interests which are all expensive habits. If you are ever heading down my way let me know and we can meet. I live only minutes from that Wal-Mart. Tom |

My father kept a sailboat in Oxford for a few years many years ago and we knew a lot of folks who lived in the general Easton area. Two of my next door neighbors have weekend homes on the Eastern Shore, one near Easton and one up the river from Cambridge.
My dream is to make a ton of money from my video project and move to the Eastern Shore. And buy the sailboat I want. Cambridge is up and coming. Just wait until the Hyatt gets its casino! |

Hi Will
Glad to meet ya.. Of course, people here say that slots will NOT be on the Eastern Shore..etc. etc. but... When the Hyatt was built, the flooring contractor told me that they installed over 200 outlets in the floor of the main lobby room. Hmmm, I wonder what would require 200 floor outlets in a large, open area room? Steve

Hi Nancy,
As I saw this post I thought to myself "this cannot be who I think it is." Obviously, however, it is you. The world is getting smaller still it seems. I remember the family well. Tell Sarah we say "hi". Kelly graduated a couple years ago with a major in dance (ballet) /instruction and choreography. She is having the time of her life. Always wished that I had some sort of performing skill. Would you believe that it just was this past December that I finally bought a decent camcorder? The last weekend of the month I will be filming for Betty again (Coppelia). She is doing well as is the rest of her family. Tat no longer works at the studio. I guess it has been around four years that Elena has been instructing. Not sure of all the particulars but Tat left and I believe has a studio in Milford. Do you keep in touch with any of the other girls from the studio? Tom |

I'm new to this forum and I'm glad I found it.
I was born in Easton, MD. but my hometown is St. Michael's. But Philadelphia,Pa. is where I grew up so I'm a Philadelphian in experience but a Marylander at heart. I had a lot of good times in St. Michael's and I hope to live there again one day my family still lives there but I don't visit much. But my heart is there and always will be. Okay I know the tears are building up in everyone's eyes about now. So here is why I repliedto this post. I see some people want to learn about or are trying to get a better knowledge of their cameras. I would like to help anyone I can in anyway I can when it comes to learning about DV camera's.(Not Financially now). I'm a filmmaker in Philly now and I direct and make Independent movies. So if I can help anyone get more involved in the process of DV cinema please contact me I'll be willing to help out. Also if you would like to see a bio of me go to Indieclub.com and go under search members PA.area Richard A.Hopkins. I have done some work in the film/tv and music video industry. So I just wanted to say hello to my fellow Marylander's and I hope I can feel at home here. And thank you.

Hi Kenn,
Well, there does seem to be an adequate number of us in this general geographic area. Perhaps we all might get together and even collaborate on a project some time. Since my daughter lives in Williamsburg, I am often in your area also. I probably will be down next weekend. Kenn, have you ever had the Muskrat dinner while on the Shore? Tom |
