hmmm, seems like the bay area is a pretty hard crew to gather up. distance and schedules being hard to manage, assuming we all still want to meet up. wish it could be as easy as me saying, lets all meet at the walnut creek starbucks (the one near north main and mt. diablo blvd. half a block from the apple store)on some saturday (read this coming sat or next) evening around 630? ill show up with my hc1 on the table so you know who i am at least. if no one shows up, fine, thats cool, ill still be happy since ill have some coffee.

Hey all,
I just spotted this thread and would be interested in collaborating with other locals. I work in SF and live in East Bay (Moraga). My buddy and I have a few projects completed and are currently in pre-production on a few more cool films. We're purely serious non-professional filmmakers, but love it. hit me up if anyone wants to hook up for a beverage to brainstorm in the City. I've got a GL-2 and edit on Premier. -Raj MiRajProductions at yahoo dot com |
Hello everyone. I just received my new Sony HVR-A1U camcorder and I love it. I am from Elk Grove, California although I also travel to the Bay Area alot. Would be fun to do a group shoot someday with everyone here.

Hey Manuel,
Good to see you again. I'm working with a Sony Z1U on a documentary. I'd like to collect some good videos of "business bustle" in SF, if you're ever up for that. Gints |
Hey Gints,
How you doing man. Long time no see. Glad I ran into you here. I'd love to join you. Are you still doing still photography with your Nikon camera? |
(Sorry for the public response. I had some trouble with Manuel's email earlier, and I would really like to maintain contact).
Hi Manuel, I send you an email through this forum. Let me know if you didn't receive it. Gints |

Rather than starting a new thread, thought I'd bring this (almost a year old) back to life. I'm in Corte Madera (in Marin, North Bay), about 15 minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge. Just thought I'd say hi. |
Hmm, I might as well say something.
Another South Bayer. |

Elk Grove here, Robert. Welcome to DVInfo... I'm into amateur film making, let me know if you are interested in that realm. I shoot a lot of DVInfo contest films, nature and dramatic, through the year, and have done 2 48 hour films this year.
Send me an email below if you want more information about projects in the future. |
Hey Daniel, Stanley, and Jonathan.
Just saying hey from Oakland. Definitely down to collaborate - Sanjay |
Hello from the city with the Prison
Hello All,
My name is Thomas and I am completely amateur at shooting. I'm trying to get into a career into editing. I work on a FCS2. I own a Sony HDR-HC1 and a pretty decent lighting kit. I want to move up to a Canon XH-A1. I typically shoot on tripod since my hands shake more than the last earthquake. I'd love to see a comparision between compressed and uncompressed video. I'm currently working on my portfolio but would love to share skills. -Thomas |
Greetings!
Yet another newbie checking in. I am in Mountain View now, but will be moving into Belmont later this month. Just looking to learn more about the industry all together.
I bought an HV20 a few months ago, and just learning so much about cinematography all together. |
Portland to Santa Rosa
Graduating from a digital video program and moving back to Santa Rosa. I've seen there's a few people in the North Bay (Healdsburg, Windsor, Petaluma).
I'm graduating with emphasis in Producing. Done alot of shorts and some commercials. I'd like to meet up with people and discuss your emphasis and strengths. I'd like to collaborate on projects and contests/ competitions. I have an NTG-2 (and other sound equipment) and an M-Audio box. Have car and macbook. Will travel to make productions happen. -Brian |
Hi Brian,
I'm up in Novato so I'm too far from you. I'm not a pro at it but I'm trying to learn as much about cinematography as I can. Right now I do local dance recitals, plays, festivals. My primary camera is a Canon XH A1 and I use an HV20 as my backup B cam. I also have a Sony D50 for sound as well as an Edirol FA-101 and some Rode mics that I take into my laptop for sound. If you ever have a project you're working on and you need some help shooting let me know. I'd love to get into making aq short or comercials. Garrett |

Low light isn't great but it is better than other HDV cams I've seen and definately better than CMOS based cams. I have pushed the gain to +6 in extreme situation but don't like to go above +3. I shoot a lot of stage shows and one of the last ballet shows had two numbers where the stage was only lit by a few dim red lights. I had to go to +6 on the gain and came out with some useable footage.
I have also recently did some fireworks down in Disneyland and at the Marin County Fair. They actually turned out great. Garrett |
