Any movie can seem to be a great movie if seen with the right audience. I loved The Core when I saw it at a big science fiction marathon earlier this year.
|
Ohhh- I have a great one for you all.
How about "Kung Pow-Enter the Fist." It was done by the guy who directed Jim Carey's Pet Detective 2. I guess it bombed in the box office, but I saw it on cable, then stumbled onto the wesite: <http://www.kungpowmovie.com/> and I just think it's one, damned silly, funny movie. I have tons of those bad kung fu movies and I always wanted to redub the voices for fun. They even let you try this on the website. Yeah- stupid ending, and overly silly at parts...so what? I laughed, and ...no I didnt cry. Forget I said that. Jeff :>) |
If you liked Kung Pow, you should definitely check out Oedekerk's "Thumb" series of short spoofs. There's "BatThumb", "The Blair Thumb", "The GodThumb", "FrankenThumb", "ThumbTanic"... all spoofs of big films, but performed by... Thumbs!
They show often on Showtime I think, and I laugh hysterically each time I see 'em... |
I really liked the Core too. Saw it on opening night. Then again, I always love apocalyptic (sp?) science fiction. Kung Pow to me was terrible. For some reason, the whole tounge thing wierded me out.
|
to me Kung Pow was hilarious, but I like martial arts films, so I appreciate the paridy. My fav scene was when the guy kept switching clothes while he was pontificating. but hey, thats just me.
I could list all the cheesy biker/teen sex comedy/drama movies of the 70s I saw, but it's still all a blur. You know, the guy who gets back from Viet Nam, gets a dirt bike and kicks the crap out of all the Harley riding gang members? Or the classic Cheerleader series? Who could forget those? Or even 1980's Last American Virgin? great stuff. |
Starship Troopers was fun indeed, I think I even liked The Postman
as well Joe <g>. But that's been a very long time ago since I watched that. A lot of people seem to dislike Meet Joe Black. One of the movies I find brilliant. And I have to confess another one: "Cruel Intentions" And the whole Matrix trilogy ofcourse... almost everyone seems to hate it. I thought it was pretty good. But then again I sort-off like open endings (not always, depends on how it's done). What I even like more is sad endings.. Hehe. |
Okay...
First of all, most of the movies I like are the Indy movies, so those mostly go unappreciated by the mainstream folk anyways. But, some of these I list got snubbed by the "artsy" folks too. Some of these might be considered mainstream flicks. The Virgin Suicides - by Sophia Coppola It starred James Woods, Kathleen Turner, Kirsten Dunst. Awesome movie, especially to those who "came of age" in the 70's American History X - biggest star in that was Edward Norton. Very powerful drama. Good lesson here... sad ending. Fight Club - another Edward Norton flick. Also had Brad Pitt. Awesome, and not just cuz Brad Pitt looked so fine in it! I'll probably be back to add more. Let's see what the rest of you come up with. |
I think someone should make a study of these movies...
And why is that people donīt like them. Most of the mentioned in these thread I did liked or at least enjoyed. (Actually a lot of the Movies mentioned on the paralel "movies you hated" thread, I liked too) (WARNING: not sure of the truth of this statement) I read somewhere that the most hated and box office failure "Waterworld" was a few years later... at the top of the rented movies on Video Clubs. I wonder how much Critics, MAgazines, Friends, etc.. can actually influence people to like or dislike a movie... (anyone seen that episode of Seinfeld where he says he doesnīt like The English Patient?) By the way, one more for my list: Tim Burtonīs Planet of the Apes. |
I relly liked the short film: A fistful of Yen.
It is a parody on all martial-arts films( kind of like Kung Pow) I also really liked Luc Bessons The fifth element and Joan of Arc( dont know if poeple really hates them) -also I didnt think Waterworld was a bad film. |
Raising Arizona
just about everyone Ive asked to watch the movie with me never lasts till the end. |
COPLAND...
I donīt know how I forgot about this one before... Watched it again.. and still donīt understand what is it that makes everyone hate it.. (and donīt wanna know either... I want to keep the dream alive :-) ) |
Ditto on "Dude Where's My Car." For when you just wanna have fun.
Also, "Tommy Boy." My wife absolutely could not stand Chris Farley, but this movie had her peeing from laughter. It's even better when you have a couple of adult beverages before viewing. :-) |
Waterboy
Yes yes it's Adam Sandler acting like a retard AGAIN but it's stupid funny humour and it has Fairuza Balk as a hot redneck girl. I had fun.
