Tripod Case - Help!

Hey all,

I just purchased a set of Bogen 755b aluminum sticks and a 501 head, and I need something to carry them with. I was going to buy a soft carry case (as i'm looking for a soft case), but ENG Gadgets, the place where I was also purchasing a kata camcorder case from, was charging upwards of $75.

$75 seems a tad unreasonable for a soft tripod carry case, especially on the budget of a college filmmaker.

In my opinion, $35-$40 is getting steep, but I suppose I'd part with it. Does anyone know of a product (soft case with 31.5 inches in length) that meets these requirements, or better yet, a place to buy it from?

Patrick,
I think that the trick to meeting your budget will be to look outside the realm of video accessories. That is, look for cheap cases designed to carry other long, round things.

The other matter to consider is why you feel you need a case at all.

Go buy some black plastic sewer pipe of the correct dimension. Glue a cap on one end and a screw-on plug female thread onto the other. Then screw a plug into the treaded end and you are set to go.

PROS
Inexpensive
Good protection if you wrap tripod in bubble wrap

CONS

Somewhat heavy
Sometimes the threaded plug can become difficult to remove without tools.

Still, it works.
