Broke the center piece on my Sachtler spreaders

I was trying to kick the legs out after carrying the tripod with my camera (XLH1) on top, it twisted the spreader and the aluminum piece that's pinned to the spreader "legs" cracked in half. Money is tight, does anyone know whether/where I might buy that part alone (new or used)? Just knowing the proper name for it would help in searching.

I'm considering trying to epoxy it for the time being, but there's probably too much load there to make that viable. Thoughts? FYI tripod is Sachtler Video 14 II.

Many Thanks.

A friend gave me a pair of spares. I don't know where he got them from, but he said it wasn't expensive. I'll post the info once I talk to him.

Oh oh, after re-reading your post, I think you have a mid-spreader? I was talking about a floor spreader.

Have you already contacted the Sachtler service center (Rick Low, Phone (+1) 818 847 1193)?

Well, hello, Barbara...........

from the Vitec Group, what a pleasure to see you here.

Can I take it you are a Sachtler rep of sorts, then?

If so, about time one turned up here, heck, just about anyone who is anyone has a presence on these boards (well, it is the most mild mannered site in the known Universe).

Glad to have you on board, I and many others have an absolute shed load of stuff to ask a Sachtler rep (if, indeed, that's what you are).

If not, no worry,

I'm a good mate of the Vinten guy in the UK, Peter Harman, you may know him.

(Yeah, I'm that pain in the ass guy in NZ).

Shoot me an e - mail, I'd like to be doing more stuff with Sachtler as well as Vinten if I can (hey, you guys [plural] are the best, good is always, er, good.

Thanks, I'll try calling the rep in the morning. I went to the Sachtler Site and wasn't at all clear who I should contact, so this helps.

Whenever something like this happens I order a spare or two depending on how much they are and what the minimum sale for shipping is.
Last time this happened to me I had just started shooting at a church in Alabama. I had a hard time keeping the curses to myself. Definitely a weak point on the lightweight ground spreaders.
