which spring for gitzo G1380 head?

Hi all,

Well, my G1325V legs arrived and I was finally able to try my G1380 head. Omigod, it's great!

Anyway, mine came with the 5 kilo spring only (ebay) and, as I suspected, it's too much for my Z1. The 2 kilo spring seems like the obvious choice to order, but I read on another thread that someon recommended the 1 kilo spring, even for a camera along the weight of a Z1.

Can anyone with this head comment on the spring size they use (which which camera) and their reactions to it? I'd hate to order the wrong one since from Canada, it's not going to be cheap...

Any comments would be most appreciated.

Thanks, and greetings from Montreal,
Vito

I use a Sony HVR A1 with my Gtizo 1380 and I use the lightest spring that came with the head, I think it is a 1. In fact because my camera is so light I even took the spring out completely for a while. Now I just use the 1 spring. I have never tried the 2 spring, but I think it would create a little too much resistance. Glad you like your head, I love mine.

which spring for gitzo G1380 head?

Thank you Dennis,

For fun, I'll try to remove the spring completely and see what happens, but the HVRA1 is so light, that I'm sure it won't work as well as it did for you!

Anyone else around who might be using this head?

Thanks again,
Vito

Well, decided to get the 2k spring and called Bogen. They were reluctant to ship to Canada, but he went for it. For anyone else who might need this kind of spring, he quoted me about $22 for the 2k spring, which was quite a bit less than I expected...
