Rob!
That was wonderful! You are an eloquent narrator and you describe the visuals so very well. This just might be the thing that will bring Brian and his 2 year old granddaughter back to a peaceful state of mind.... either that or it might be the straw that breaks the camel's back... I hope you can enjoy this Brian! Rob, you are talented and passionate in your film-making... it will be so nice to have you and everyone back to a fresh start next month so we can soak up all this talent again... it got a little thin there in the end last year with a wholesome crop of the main-stays opting to take a swim. Thanks for the clip, as I am here at the computer it is 6 degrees F and snowing. All the animals are in, so Brian you are not alone... our chickens and ducks are in pure pandemonium couped up in the houses, the goats however seem to take what comes in stride... Here's to Spring, and UWOL 2008! Cat P.S. Dave Robinson, what a tease you are! Now we will all be able to pick you out in a police line up for sure...HA! |
Cat, you're more than welcome ;-)
|
Cat believe it or not but the storm rages on...this is completely nuts. It's a full week now. In all my years up here the longest has been three days and here's the killer the temperature with the wind chill is now minus 59 degrees C or just in case anyone was wondering that's minus 74 F. Tires on cars and trucks are going flat just sitting the bead on the rim lets go and instant flat.
The little girl is amazing away from mom and dad for the first time and not a tear from her but my eyes are red and sore....I love you little girl but enough is enough LOL...Just kidding we do what we have to do. Bob I've tried numerous times but I get a link error. Too cold for video I guess. Cat I hope the animals will be alright....for me its way too late LOL Brian |
Wow Rob,
What an inspiration! Beautifully done! Bryce |
Finally got it to work properly...wonderful film Rob. If only spring would get here.
Brian |

Ironically we're having a pretty crazy time here, in the north there's a load of snow, and on the south coast Daffodils have started to bloom in places!!! |
lovely film, rob. you're a very good narrator.
and a belated welcome to some new faces, annie from wales and jurgen from belgium. hope you all are planning to sign up on thursday! sorry i've been kind of lax on my welcome wagon duties, the launch of the new website has been preoccupying... it's hard work sitting around watching mat do all the work! belgium would be another new country to add to our expanding list. and a place which i know nothing whatsoever about, so let the education begin! bring on belgium! |

hehe, thanks for the welcome :) I'd like to take part in it, but I'm very unexperienced compared to everyone here :o |

Stay with us and sign up for the next challenge. The sign up thread should be available very soon. |
sorry jurgen, no excuses! we're all here to learn. every time you post a film, you learn a few more tricks. that's the point! besides, ahem, rule #11--have fun!
this is a pretty friendly group, you will find--it's a great place to start without much experience...everyone gets a lot of satisfaction from seeing each other learn and improve. look, even our per johan had to learn how to shoot at NIGHT, for the first time! |
I love the community allready, I'll try to make the best from it! :)
|
all right, jurgen, it is too late for our t-shirts, but!...
how would you say "our world, your vision" in belgium? is it just the same as french? (in which case you're already covered, on the t-shirt) ...see how little i know? shameful... |
well you have two (even three if you include german) languages in belgium, Mainly dutch (called flemish here) and the other language is indeed french!
I am from the dutch part though our world, your vision is "Onze wereld, jouw visie!" Thanks for being so interested in our little country though, we are not used to that :) |
wow, we could take up a whole t-shirt with just the belgian languages...we'll have to add dutch to next year's model...
well, i already know more about the weather in norway and in the arctic circle than i ever imagined that i would know...why not add belgium to the list?? we're all about the world travel from the ease of your desktop.... |
sounds great, if you'd include belgium you would include the netherlands aswell, since we speak the same language ^^
(and in southern africa they speak a language very alike to ours) |
well...we include everyone from any country...they just gotta post a film first! to make it official...
|
In South Africa we have a language called Afrikaans that comes from the dutch settlers.Dutch speaking people have no problem with understanding afrikaans,I however need a dutch speaking person to slow down a bit when they talk in order to understand them.In South Africa we have 11 official languages,we tend to get a bit too politicaly correct these days.Oh yes Jurgen,I only had my camera for about 2 weeks before I signed up for my first contest here. Not all of us are experts.....Have fun

lets see some pictures
I started this thread so we could put some pictures to place the competitors..
Nice to know who is whupping me!! Lets see some of your mugs please!!! Particularly all those in the next uwol 7!!!!!!!!!!! |

Hi all,
I just had to pop in this photo of me with my new toy. A Miller DS10 Solo carbon fibre tripod. Can't wait to put it to use for this round. Let the fun begin! Happy filming to all! Bryce |
Raynox?
Wow, Bryce!
Is that the Raynox HDP-9000EX protruding from Your cam? I'm in the midst of ordering one from B&H. To my disappointment, it won't have the lens shade included (you seem to have gotten one somewhere, not?). To my suprise, a rep from B&H said in the mail concerning the lack of it (quote) "Our Answer: You need to use the existing lens hood that came with your Canon XHA1. It attaches to the Raynox directly". I sure wonder how that can be if HDP really has front lens diameter of about 10 cm. Well, live and learn. Guess I have to make a mock one from PVC tube of something. Cheers Heimo |

good point Dale - the pic's have been missing
here's a still from a recent promo we did - I promise not to get in front of the camera for UWOL |
Hi Heimo,
Yes you picked it. I also picked mine up from BH Photo. Price was about half of what they cost here in Oz. Bizzare that it won't be coming with the lens shade! As far as the rep saying that the Canon lens shade will work, well let's just say that i'd like some of whatever he's on!! You might try contacting Raynox direct & ask them what the go is. Making something from PVC tube i guess would be possible but not an easy job. I just measured it & the outside diameter of the thread is 107mm. If you can sort the lens shade out, i'm sure you will be very impressed with it. Although i haven't yet seen any of my footage on a big full high def screen, on my computer screen the clips are sensational! Make sure you have a decent tripod though! I was using a Libec LS22, & although i liked the tripod for the money, I just ended up investing in a Miller DS10, & so far it looks heaps more stable with the Raynox lens on. Bryce |

All the web pages I looked at said the special lens hood was included - I'd be harassing B&H |
Hi Paul,
If you're into shooting wildlife, then a long lens is a real help, that's for sure. Last weekend, i actually shot some footage of a white bellied sea eagle from about 500m away & it really was like looking through a telescope. Without the lens, i couldn't even tell what sort of bird it was! The only problem especially here in Oz is the heat haze you are shooting through sometimes. On a clear cool day though, the picture is awsome. Bryce |
Nice Bryce. I need some better lens for my XH A1 and you found the solution :) but will that lens stick on to the front of the A1 without support?
maybe some sort of rails would be smart? anyways. Here i am. First timer to the uwol this year and up for the task. Im a 26 year old norwegian that loves both filming and sound engineering :) hmm the attatchments doesnt work it seems. posting rules states following. You may not post attachments |
Hi Vegard,
The lens is great. It's not too heavy but i do have a set of rails that i just bought recently. I just need to finish making up the support for the lens, just incase. It screws straight into the 72mm thread on the camera lens. Bit of a pain really, it goes in such a long way that it seems to take forever to screw it right in. Bryce. P.S. if you simply click on the Manage Attachments button when you are posting a reply, you can then navigate to the file on your computer you want to upload. |

And thanks for the tips. I also thought of building some type of support in due time. I think I'll try to contact both Raynox and BH on the shade. I believe, Bryce, you bought yours last october, so it really is strange why they now would not have the shade included. As to Vegard, his join date might be too close. Heimo |
raynox
Bryce,
could you post a couple stills and info on this in the outdoor forum (uwol) I am sure there are a lot of people in that group interested in this duplex/1.8x. I would like to see an object with the standard 20x lens full framed, then back off and full frame it with the 1.8x. |
Raynox Thread
Hi Dale,
I have posted a thread here. http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthrea...811#post818811 I hope this will answer questions you or any others may have about this lens. Bryce |

New nature filmmaker!
Hey everyone, I'm brand new to the forums. I haven't entered a UWOL competition yet, but I'm planning on joining up in March and I can't wait! I figured this would be a good way to get started and get to know everyone. So this is me...I'm a film student right now, and I'm pretty sure I'm the only person at USC who's hoping to spend years following animals all around the world :) I'm not allowed to post attachments for some reason, so here are the pics...
http://s36.photobucket.com/albums/e2...lyUSC/Website/ Nice to meet you all! I look forward to seeing how you Adventure folks do! |

Next one is in April, with sign up the last week of March. |
awrighty, we always like more girls with cameras in these parts...welcome to UWOL, Jessica...looking forward to seeing what you can put together in March...
usually Cat chimes in to help me out with Girls' Club, but i think we lost her in a snowstorm with this theme...she mentioned dangerous, now i'm worried! sinkholes and avalanches all over this silly, snowy state... |
Hey there Jessica.
Welcome to the UWOL family. Several great things about the UWOL family. First and foremost, the people we have incredibly talented people from all over the world. But you won't find stuffed shirts or pompous egos here. Second, the challenge gives you an opportunity to make some films you might not have otherwise. Plus, it gives you some insight on how other filmmakers tackle the same theme. You will pick up ideas that you may not have ever thought of that you can incorporate into future projects. Next is the feedback. You get to hear from other filmmakers, what they thought worked and what didn't. It's constructive advice. We'll tell you if that transition didn't work for us or you held that shot to long. BUT, and this is the cool part, is that we'll ALSO give you feedback on what you could do differently. Combined with all this feedback from numerous nature/wildlife/outdoor filmmakers you can get a pretty good handle on how your film is being received. And the last, and this is by far the most important thing about UWOL is to have FUN! Enjoy your time spent shooting, editing, thinking of an idea etc. That's the best part of UWOL. Look forward to having you join us in March. |
Here I am Meryem!
Boy you are right.... dangerous it's been! wink wink! Welcome Jessica! Like Meryem said, I like to cheer on the ladies! We need to balance out all these talented guys! See you next round! Cato |

I wanted to put this back on top of the list to see if we can get some of you others to post some pictures up here!!!
We have 22 so far, there are at least 20 more of you out there!! Come on you people lets see your mug shots!! |
